Another question about this OBW
 

You all have been such great help while I've struggled with this OBW. I am working on the quilting and decided to do 'stitch in the ditch' for the hexis even though I'm not fond of SID. I started doing an orange peel but really didn't like the way that looked and took it all out. Anyway, I'm using a batting that I had from a long time ago and it says the quilting needs to be 1"- 1 1/2". So I probably need to add something in the middle of the triangles. I measured and from point to mid-line of the opposite side it measures slightly less than 3". The mid-point would be about 1 1/2".

I've had a couple of different ideas but I'm open to more.

1. Tie a knot in the center of each triangle. That would have the old tied quilt appearance, I think.
2. Sew a line halfway between the lines that are there. That would be 3 lines intersecting in the middle of each triangle.

I want the finished quilt to look good..... do you all have any more ideas? Or, which would you do if this was your quilt?

I'm not a fan of tied quilts, but if you decide to go that route I would suggest making the ties on the back so they don't detract from the front of the quilt.

Another thought - since your GORGEOUS quilt is put together in rows, could you just run a line of quilting down the center of each row? Would that be enough quilting?

Thanks, Dunster. Those are both good suggestions. Would 1 line down between the up and down rows make it look lopsided?

I'm working on the border now..... while I keep deciding what to do.

If you want to take the time to do each block individually, then a gentle S curve across the middle of each wedge in the block would be appealing as each section of the OBW block would connect with the wedges on either side.

I've "machine tied" quilts before. Just a little tack or a single repeat of a decorative motif. One quilt I did a small tack in the ditch & it blends right in.

Beautiful quilt! I like your idea of stitching from the outside to the center. I think that would be nice. I think stitching in rows might take away from the shape of the OBW. I thought about following the shape of the outer line but midway but then I think that would take away to. Good luck. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

I've done that on whole-cloth novelty quilts for the kids and for quillows. It works well and is easy to do.

No clue about the quilting. 1-12/2" inches? Sheesh! but I am totally in love with your fabric choice! Stunning!!!
