I am so excited about making my first QFK quilt. I ordered the kit about a week ago. I was wondering how long it takes to get the kit? The address listed on the website for returning the finished quilt is in PA and that is where I live, so I wouldn't think the shipping time would be all that long. In addition, I emailed the contact person listed for the closest chapter to me about the same time, but have had no response.

What is your experience with the time frame on the kits any of you have gotten?

Maybe I am just being way to impatient, but I am so psyched about this endeavor...AND, I found some adorable Noahs ark type material in my stash yesterday that I think would make an adorable quilt for a younger child.

Thanks for any information anyone can provide.

I got mine within a week or two. It took me months to finish it and get it mailed back, but got it done. I'm still going to make another one from my stash, but it will need to wait in line until another project or two done first.

Thanks for the info. If I don't get it by the end of the week, I will try to find a way to contact them.

Mine come in a week...but they have been havin so many requests, that it may start taking longer!! I guess that is good and bad news, huh? LOL
I seen on their website that they have 2 women working full time cutting the fabric for them at the fabric factory, and then the volunteers have to bundle the fabric into kits. It sounds like the number of kits going out is growing by leaps and bounds :D:D:D

Skyqueen30094 04-28-2010 07:39 AM

yea it is taking longer with so many request. go ahead and make one with your stash instruction/directions on web site; you can always go ahead and send it to them you don't have to wait till you get the kit. if you need help with the instructions and what they want just ask or check on line at their web site.

nursie76 04-28-2010 07:54 AM

Thanks Amma. and SkyQueen for the info. I won't get so freaked out then if it takes a little longer. I will need to get at least one coordinating fabric to put with the Noah's ark material, but I could start on that. Why didn't I think of that?

I got an email with a tracking number on it once they mailed it out. Did you get a tracking number to follow? That might give you an idea if they have even mailed it out yet or not.

vbourck 04-28-2010 08:44 AM

I am thinking this board can take a large part of the blame for the increase in requests for kits! It would be interesting to find out what the actual number of quilts is that have come from members of this board who heard about the project here. Anyone want to guess??

No, I have not gotten an email from them. So perhaps they have not mailed it out yet. Thanks for the tip!

I also got an email stating it had shipped and it took almost two weeks altogether. They are really busy now. Love the kit that finally showed up. Have fun with it.

I am new to this site == What is the website you are speaking of please pm me the site would love to see what they have thanks

patricej 04-29-2010 02:29 AM

remember ... the kit is free.

i can remember when the standard for anything ordered by mail was "allow 4 - 6 weeks for delivery."

the kit is free. the kit is free. the kit is free.

be patient. ;-)

Holice 04-29-2010 02:39 AM

Since the Quilts for Kids organization ask that if possible you make a second one and send to them........why don't you use one of the patterns suggested and start on that quilt. You will be ahead of the game. All the patterns look very simple and easy to make.

I googled quilts for kids and the website came up with all the information. Good Luck Marge

I will wait for a few weeks then before I get too concerned. I did find some material in my stash and am going to try a NICU quilt this weekend hopefully. Do you think flannel would be ok for the back? Would be soft and add a different texture for tactile stimulation.
Thanks for the input.

LovinMySoldier 04-29-2010 08:48 AM

read the website about flannel. I read something about it that they don't like it all that much... It could have been something else though. Seems like they said flannel looks used the first time it is washed :( They have a ton of FAQ's maybe it was on there

I made 2 Quilts for Kids from their kits and then 8 more from my stash. The pattern is not hard and it is very rewarding. I am retired and I have a lot of free time. This was how I got back into quilting .I think they are happy to get whatever you do, whenever you do it. They send out thousands but every one benefits a child.
