I found using the pre marked ruler for pattern saves time, frustration and misscuts. I don't mind buying a specialty ruler for one pattern, I'm always glad I do.

I fell into that trap. Now the specialty ruler sits in a drawer collecting dust. I would try using some scraps and see what you can do.

I think I would make a couple of blocks out of scraps and see if that works. It seems there are always rulers that can be used for many different shapes and sizes. Also, I agree with the members that just read the pattern really closely and you possibly can use one of the rules you already have. Good luck and let us know how you do.

This is kind of like revamping an old pattern and selling it with a new name and different instructions for piecing, that are usually not an improvement on the old pattern; case in point, many trips around the world and mosaic memories. I'm sure there is probably something new/different about the pattern besides the name and price.

I feel I get my money's worth the first time I use a specialty ruler to make a quilt. If I use it again then that's one thing less I have to buy. Feeling bad about buying a new ruler is not on my quilting to do list. I don't have time for that.

I guess it's just a matter of what you want to spend your money on. I don't like designing a quilt around a ruler you're plugging.

Yall have lots of good advice. The real problem is that they give no finished measurements except for the final block. It is hard to figure the measurements when you have a 4 patch for the center, and then 2 more rounds of triangles making the square in a square. I am just hard headed enough to keep on trying till I do figure it out. I have watched the video, stopping it, and making it as large as I can, to see what the measurements are on the ruler. They surely don't want you to see it up close. I just think 18$ for a ruler is really high for a one-time shot which I think is what this would be for me. Thank you all for your advice. I will let you know when I conquer this mountain!! lol!!

It's called Fussy Cut Squared....really original huh? jk! It has fussy cut blocks with square in a square and also a 4 patch in the middle of square in a square. It's really cute.....they used Christmas snowman fabrics. I love the pattern....just wish I could figure it all out! I think I'm almost there now!

I don't think I would buy a ruler and then try to design a pattern to fit the ruler. I like specialty rulers. The cutting goes smoothly, all the pieces fit, and I'm enjoying my quilting time instead of trying to figure out if I lay my basic ruler this way and then flip it this way.........just not my thing. I don't think I've bought a ruler for one pattern that cost more then $20.
