Attached is picture of quilt called Kinabalu designed by Ginny Beyer, It was fun to do and I am pleased with how it turned out but, As I started to trim the first corner to put in the triangle piece that is fussy cut from the border fabric, I was so caught up in precise placement of the piece, I cut off the wrong $%^$## corner.( as you see from the pic it needs to be in the dark area. )I set it aside for a while, and when I talked to my friend that is teaching me, did I mention I am fairly new. She said always sew the piece on before trimming the underneath piece. Well the other 15 blocks went great. My next step was( I am sure now) wrong, I fixed the error with fusible web and then zigzaged to prevent fraying. It doesn't show much at all, but I think now, I should have made a new block. Did I ruin the whole thing?

I will say, I can't see it. Your quilt is absolutely beautiful. I am going to watch this thread because I want to better understand what was wrong and what was the way to fix it.

Again, beautiful work. I think you might be being a bit hard on yourself.

JulieM 01-14-2011 01:02 PM

I'm with Vicki, I do not see it and your quilt is beautiful.

Wow, that is a beautiful quilt and I can't see the mistake either! The only issue I can think of is whether it will hold up to multiple washings!

BellaBoo 01-14-2011 01:05 PM

I glue and sew fabric over mistakes all the time in my quilts. If I don't have a sharp point where it needs to be I make it sharp. If I cut off a point I add one.

Jim's Gem 01-14-2011 01:08 PM

Your quilt looks beautiful!!!

dunster 01-14-2011 01:08 PM

It looks beautiful here, can't see any mistake at all, so you surely didn't ruin the whole thing. And don't think that's a mistake that only rookies make either.

Pam S 01-14-2011 01:11 PM

Can't tell where the mistake was. It's a very beautiful quilt.

feline fanatic 01-14-2011 01:11 PM

I don't see the mistake either and even after reading your post several times I still have no clue which corner you cut by mistake. It is a beautiful quilt. If you are concerned about the structural integrity of the repair, quilt it a bit more. That should hold up.

sewingladydi 01-14-2011 01:11 PM

Don't beat yourself up-it's a lovely quilt. My philosophy is that only God is perfect. And I can't see the mistake you are talking about anyway.

2 Doods 01-14-2011 01:12 PM

Beautiful! I have this pattern and have it bookmarked in my magazine as "One to Do". Love it!

amma 01-14-2011 01:14 PM

I would just chalk it up as a learning experience and not worry about it :D:D:D
Your quilt is beautiful, you fixed the error, so what is next on your list? :D:D:D

Thanks, Bella, that gives me hope. I found it almost totally disappeared with the fusible web fix, but was afraid washing might fray the cut line, so that is why I zigzaged the cut edge. Still have to look close to find it. But I know it is there. Rita

Can you post a close-up of the oops? Your quilt looks beautiful and I love the way you did the mitered borders - I've never done those, but they are a pain to keep square on the quilting frame!

Your quilt is beautiful and I am sure you are the only one that can see the error and what others don't know won't hurt them.

Juliebelle 01-14-2011 02:09 PM

WOW - excellent fix. You could have a new profession. That isn't going to show at all. You did a great job of fixing your "boo boo". I wouldn't worry about it at all. Your quilt is gorgeous.

Ah, okay, now I see the boo boo (and that's only after magnifying the close-up image a few times).

First off, I wouldn't call it a newbie mistake. I'm sure there are plenty of experienced quilters right here on this board, if not this thread, who have uttered some pretty colorful language when something like this happens.

And it does happen.

I usually start hopping up and down, cursing ....well, never mind, I'm sure you can use your imagination. It ain't pretty. And it takes a long time to get over my stupidity.

The only piece of advice I could give you, if it really, really bothers you, is to get a fine black Sharpie pen, and use it to go over the zig-zag thread on the black fabric. I often use this method myself. Do the same for the green fabric with a green pen. The thread doesn't show up so much on the pink fabric.

But that's only if it's driving you insane. It's impossible to even see on the first picture, and one really has to look for it in the close-up. And if it's going to be wallhanging(?), hang it with that block at the top.

It's a lovely quilt. Enjoy it and move on to your next project.

Wow, you guys are so encouraging, I feel so much better now, I am going to take your advise with the colored ink, I tried to use a neutral thread color but fixing it on the darker fabrics would be better. I am giving it to my daughter ( a non quilter) and am not going to tell her about it, so hopefully she will enjoy it. Thanks again all. Rita

Beautiful !! Don't see anything wrong !!

LoveBug 01-14-2011 07:16 PM

I think you did a great job fixing it! Don't worry about it. We have enough things "wrong" with us without pointing out our mistakes to others. :)

I'm sorry I guess I am not experienced enough to see your mistake. I think your quilt is awesome.
