Another sashing question

I made the blocks for my string quilt by sewing strips to a piece of fabric for each block. If I wanted to add sashing, should I also double the sashing strips by sewing them to the same base fabric I used for the blocks? Or should I use fusible interfacing on the sashing, or should I just use a single layer fabric for the sashing?
I would appreciate to hear (read) your opinions.

I think that one reason to add sashing to foundation-pieced string quilts is to eliminate the bulky seams caused when you join two string blocks together. So I wouldn't add any foundation behind the sashing. I'm stating that purely from a theoretical point of view. I've longarmed string quilts with and without sashing, but I don't remember whether there was a foundation behind the sashing. Interesting question.

i would double the sashing fabric. that way the whole quilt will feel the same and quilt the same. if you quilt the sashings without anything behind them, they wont' show your quilting well. Ask me how i know!!

the whole point of the sashing is to join the blocks together without adding lots of extra fabric ... Leah Day has a version that she refers to as 'binding strips' rather than 'sashing' : http://www.freemotionquilting.blogsp...ed-pieces.html

thanks for taking the time to answer! I think I will double up my sashing material. I am still too new to this business to try for the binding strips - you have to be so exact there...
