I went to Hancocks for their summer sale. I could not pass up quilting cottons 50% off. Anyway-the lady cutting my fabric ask what I was making. I told her "quilts" and she asked if I prewashed my fabric. I told her yes, I always prewash all my fabric. She said thats good because its really important to prewash fabric to remove the excess chemicals. I thought to myself, mmm we've just been discussing this topic on the message board. By the way, I found some great fabric.
Check out the Hancock website, I think the sale is on until July 7th.

We used to buy fabric for mom because she wasn't able to go shopping. We always washed it before giving it to her because she was allergic to the chemicals in it.

Well, maybe I should start washing mine. You have a good point.

Yes, I'm allergic to the chemicals as well. After 10 years of treatment I can occasionally go into the fabric store.
(2-3 times a year). But I do pay for the exposure. It takes about 4 days of detox cocktails 2x a day to flush the toxins.
So it is a real treat for me when I do shop for fabric.
My fabric is washed with chemical free soap (rinsed in vinegar)the minute it comes in the house.
