I have stacks of table linens from grandmothers, aunts and Mom. Our children don't want them (they would have to be ironed!!!!). I would love some ideas on using these in quilts. I have tons of napkins, placemats, table runners as well as cloths.
Some of these are showing age, others still look new. I don't use them either. I don't think anyone entertains that formally anymore, at least in my circle of friends. Sure would love to hear from you. This is a fantastic Board. So much useful information, some laughs here and there and sadness too. Thank you. ♥

I'm guessing that if they were used there are some stains and weak spots, but if they aren't going to be used as is why not cut out the good parts and re-purpose them!
What about making pillows. Or if the fabric is sturdy enough you could make bags or totes from them. How about those mug rugs or candle mats that are so popular? They could be shared with the family then.

I seen a quilt at a show that was cut from old linens. They had used a base (12-14in square) and then crazy quilt style started layering the good pieces from dresser scarves,tablecloths, pillowcases, hankies, etc. Kind of like the crumb quilts seen on the board. The quilter also sewed bits of ribbon across the seams. It was so cute. I too have a large collection of hand embroidered linens, I love them. Suzanne McNeill from Design Originals has two books "Ladies of Leisure" and "Vintage Garden" that give good inspirations for projects.

I use old linens with fancy stitches, lace,tating, anything hand done to make wall hangings, hand bags, placemats, ect. Plain fabric napkins I embrodrie them make the item.

I love the pillow idea. I had a beautiful partially finished crochet table cloth from my MIL. Had it trimmed into 9"x12" pieces and then framed for my SILs and GKs. No one was going to use the tablecloth, if I had it finished but this way we all have her beautiful handwork to enjoy.

I just took a class this week with Cindy Needham, and she uses antique linens to make outrageously gorgeous quilts. Goggle her name and see what you come up with!

I looked up Cindy Needham's site. WOW! She does amazing work with old linens. Definitely worth checking out.
