Hey, I just bought a White Brand Treadle Type Machine and cabinet. I found a manuel online, but I am wondering where to start as far as cleaning it up, and oiling. I do not really want to take it somewhere, since I feel I may have paid too much for it.(per DH).Any suggestions?

Go the the Vintage Machine Shop on this board. There's a tute on how to clean up old machines. Billy (lostn51) created this wonderful tute. I've cleaned up/fixed 3 machines using this tute!

Thank you so much.

Congrats on the machine! I have a 66' White and it's a workhorse, it's been my primary machine since I got it.

Great! i found a White 619 a couple weeks ago. Straight stitch only but it sews beautifully. Whoever had it took real good care of it.

Well the pic in my avatar is my new baby. Not sure when it was made. DH thinks early 1900's??

My mom had an old White machine when I was a kid. I do not know what she did with it. I always thought it was beautiful.

There is also a website called "TreadleOn" which has a lot of good information on working with treadle machines. Worth looking into.
