I tried to do a search about this before posting, but didn't find anything, so if it's a repeat, my apologies.

I am considering purchasing this machine and was wondering if any of you have used this machine, and if so, what your comments would be. It's a combo of a sewing/embroidery machine.

I am currently using a Europro shark and have had several problems with the timing, amongst other things, and cannot find the resources or parts to fix it. I think it's a sign to start shopping!! lol

Sorry cricket - know nothing about Brother machines - I have a Bernina.

If you type the make and model and sewing machine google will give you several sites where they sell them and reviews from actuall buyers.

I know several people here have bought the disney model and had good luck. Walmart sells brother and i heard the ladies say that a few days after xmas the 28th there would be a sale on sewing machines :D

here are some reviews from the Wal-mart site. they look pretty positive. you'll always have one (or two) bad apples in the barrel!

Hi, I've had this machine since July 2008 and so far I love it. As a beginner, it seems to be doing the work but then again I've only been doing piecing for quilt tops. I've tried the embroidery and it works great. I have had no problems since buying it at Walmart. Brothers customer service is also helpful and they resond to questions fairly quickly.

Also, what I thought about doing, was buying it, testing it at home for like a week and if I didn't get the hang of it, return it. In the end, I kept it and I'm glad I did! Hope this helps you.

I have this machine from walmart and I really like it. I need to do more embrodery with it though as I got stuck on quilts and never went back.lol

Brother does not have a good service dept though. Have tried to contact them several times and never get an answer. Thank goodness sit wasn't about my machines performance.

i don't know about a brother machine, i have a bernina. but i would suggest buying a machine where you can go and get help or classes with. even shops that are dedicated to sewing machines, have some that are not to spendy and they will be there if you have questions or problems with the machine. most of the big box stores do not offer any sort of back up if you have problems, you are pretty much on your own.
if i was buying new, i would buy something from a local shop, given the choice...just a thought.

I very seriously considered this machine when I was shopping. In fact my husband would have bought it if Walmart had had one in stock the day he went to buy it.

Instead DH found me an older model Brother for a bit more money (ULT 2001) That I just love, it sews and embroiders beautifully. If I was considering buying a sewing machine for someone (and had any money) I would not hesitate to buy the SE-350. Don't be sucked into the 270 it might be less money, but don't be fooled - the 350 is the better way to go.

Thank you all for your comments. I have been doing a bit more research and I'm pretty much sold on the 350. Just thought I'd wait until after the Christmas rush, and buy it for myself for my birthday next month!!

The cats in the photo are Frank and Bob. Frank is now 10 years old, and Bob just passed away at 16. They were the best of friends, as Bobcat picked out Frank himself at the SPCA. Bobcat took daily walks with me on a leash, and loved to travel. We walked into the SPCA with Bob on my shoulder and the woman behind the counter looked at me with fear and said, "You're not going to leave THAT here, are you?!?!?" We said no, and that we were there to find him a friend. There were five kittens to choose from, all in separate cages, and Bob passed up the first three, and went directly to Frank and started licking him through the bars. That's when we knew that Frank was the one!! When Bob died, Frank howled mournfully for days. Now we have a two year old cat that looks much like Bobcat did, but Frank hasn't warmed up as much to Jack just yet. They do play well together, but aren't as much into cuddling like he was with Bob. I have several hundred photos of Bobcat and Frank together, arm in arm. That just happens to be my favorite of all!!
