Any EQ users? need help with a design.
 

I want to make the evening star block or saw tooth block. But I want to make it larger than the 12" pattern I found. Can someone with a design program help me figure it out, please? You can send me a PM so I can explain it better as to what I am trying to do. Thank you

Why don't you tell us here what you are trying to do? It's a bit hard to help if we only know you need to enlarge it and don't give a size.

Is the Evening star already in EQ? If yes, when you print the block, you can change the size to be what you and print the new dimension. You will get accurate rotary cutting sizes for the new size. The evening star blocks I saw were designed on an 8" grid. It will be easiest to enlarge an 8" pattern to 12", 16", 20", 24" or 28". You will get some really odd cutting measurements if you try to go to a 15 inch block. Did this help any?

Thanks Barb for your reply. I printed out the Sawtooth pattern from Quilters cache. It is for a 12" block. But the fabric I want to use has a bigger print, so would look better if the center square is cut out at 9 1/2". Her pattern for the star , the center is cut out at 6 1/2". I need to know what measurements to make the corners and other edges. I did try doubling the measurements, but that would end up being a 24" star block , and I think it would look too big.

If the original center is 6 inches and you want to go to 9, then divide 9 by 6 which is 1.5. Multiply all your other measurements by 1.5 to get your new block size....12 x 1.5 = 18". Do the same for all the cutting measurements.

This is the 18" measurements per my entering the block in EQ with a 9" finished center in EQ. What I actually did was to draw the block as a 12 inch which is the original size. I then upsized the block by the 1.5 to be 18". Then I printed the 18" block cutting instructions to a PDF file. Hope this helps you out.

Yay, Barb!!! You beat me to it! Couldn't figure out how to attach a PDF file.

I would make those flying geese by using the rectangle and 2 squares method as shown on Quilter's Cache. Cut the rectangles 5" X 9.5" and the squares 5".

To attach a PDF, go to Manage attachments, then Browse and choose that file. It's the same as loading pictures, but I have never had one fail to load because it was too big.

Barb and Karen , thank you. I just got home from work and trudging through 8" of snow! This was helpful and I think the Flying geese cut at 5" x 9.5" sound easy to do. I will try out a block later this week. Thank you again .

I just LOVE EQ. It is so easy to make adjustments to most quilt patterns.
