Next up on the make-a-quilt-for-list is my mom's bf (which will show that I have (finally) accepted him as part of the family... yeah...) anyway, so we have a running family joke about a gila (pronounced hee-la) monster. I was wondering if anyone knew where I might find some gila monster fabric. I know that's more of a challenge than the usual fabric searches, but I would be grateful for any help! Thanks :)

Heh, only a few views so far. At least I used a descriptive title so it's easy for people to tell they can't help me!

Well, I see no one has come up with anything. Just a blank, so sorry ... I was thinking maybe you could make your own fabric by getting a stamp with the gila monster on it and stamp it yourself. It is something to think about. No one else has come up with an idea maybe now someone would...what ya think?

this might not be a big help, but this packet includes gila monster

Funny. Not quite as easy as finding a rare dog breed. ;) ;)
So here's a potholder. I know, I know. But..... http://www.embudofabricdesign.com/po...lamonster.html why couldn't you applique (sew/fuse/whatever method) this pattern to make your own gila monster? This particular image is pretty graphic, and if you make the background black, you could fuse the other fabrics to give it a scaly-like effect. Just a thought. |
www.bugfabric.com usually has all kinds of bug/snake/lizard fabric

I did a quick search (I was intrigued!) and came up with this cool site...If they make aprons (see bottom left for Gila Monster print apron), they must sell or know where you can get the fabric.

Well, I've got brightly colored lizard things -in kid brights and in a more southwestern-y theme.
I will attempt to dig them out tomorrow (no small feat). |
You can print your own fabric if you have pictures and get the special fabric that goes through your printer. Or use Bubble Jet Set which is cheaper but just a little bit more involved. I am sorry, I can't think of the name of the fabric right now that you get in 8x10 pieces that is already treated and backed with a freezer-paper like stuff that will go through your printer.

Thank you all for the links and suggestions! I appreciate the help! You're all awesome

Funny, now that I've read this topic thread, I have advertising Gila Monster Everything to do with Gila Monster items. Yahoo.com at the bottom of my page.

So back to fusing.
If you had the background be the lighter brownish color, you could cut up the black (with fusible attached) to be the swiss cheese-y scaley-like pattern in your picture. And done. ;-) Whatever you decide, please post a picture when you're done. |
