Any ideas on what to do are greatly appreciated

I have just finished a quilt for my Aunt who loves the New Orleans Saints. She wanted the quilt to be the same style as a Green Bay Packer quilt that I made last year. The fabric wasn't printed with enough space to cut out the New Orleans Saints helmets without getting part of the SAINTS in the square. The SAINTS are in white on black. Any ideas how to get rid of the S's in my design? I have tried black Sharpie marker and then washed it after a couple of days of drying and it came out blue.

I'm sorry I don't see how to add a photo to show you my problem.

I would love to help but not sure I understand the problem.

First thought, cut "s" out and add new fabric if needed.

Second, appliqué another color directly over the "s"

Third, why can't you leave it, they ARE the saints!

If I understand the problem correctly, when you cut the squares, you are cutting off part of the logo? if that is the case, I would change the shape of the square to match the fussy cut. I don't know if you could still use your quilt pattern or if it would need to be changed too. I think Warm Wishes would work well because you can make the fussy cut any size you want. You could appliqué something over the problem but that would probably not go with the pattern? Good luck, maybe someone else will have a good solution for you.

I agree that whatever is printed with the logo probably is not that distracting, but I have "pieced" fussy cut fabric with small pieces from the "neutral" areas in a print to "clean up" my focus print. I especially hate decapitated animals when I make children's quilts

Sometimes the best you can do is say no.

Some fabrics just don't work when we want to fussy cut!

It might be easier for us to help you, if you'd show us a photo. To add your photo, go to the avatars above the box you type a message in. Look for the one that's squarish, and when you slide your mouse over it, it shows "Insert Image". Click on that, and then follow thru to add your photo.

Make sure you resize your photos so they will fit - 800 x 640 should do.

I think I understand your problem as I've been thinking about this issue for a quilt I plan to make for my son.

My idea is to make the blocks with the helmets into snowball blocks which the corner portions cover the unwanted lettering.

It's hard to tell if this will solve your problem without seeing a picture but it might work.

You might try fabric paints to cover the part of the logo that is included in the helmet where you don't want it showing.

Can you fussy cut the helmets and then put on another square? Or maybe six or eight sided will do and then add your triangles. Hard to give advice, if you can't see it.

Yeah, what she said. I've done it many times and it works like a dream.

where is the "Go To Manage Attachments"?

Apologizes first, if you please. I simply can not figure out where "Click on the post:
Go to Manage Attachments" is. I'm on my 2nd cup'o'joe and decided it was time to wave the white flag. Thank you Callen for helping. Thank you sew so much.

Thank you every one for your suggestions. I have tried to reply to you individually but, with no success. I am not having any luck navigating this website lately.
But, I truly do appreciate the help everyone has given me. I have decided to leave it alone. The next quilt for the Saints I will paint the Ss so I don't have this problem. I added this quilt to "my album" so you can let me know if it's too bad. I like the idea of cutting out the Ss but so far I haven't attempted to sew on the round. I would like to try the Drunkard's Path to learn the technique. My Aunt & cousin are huge Saints fans. Me? I'll stick with my Packers :)

I've had the same issue with some Dolphins fabric. I fussy cut (cutting out just the helmet) the design, then added fusible interfacing, and finally appliqued to another square. It was a lot of extra work, but it was worth it in the end.

Thank you for the tip Cullen. OK now you can see the photos.

I will try your technique on some of the squares I have left. Thank you. I have a lot of new ideas to try. Thank you all so much.

I am sorry I got your name wrong on my last reply. I was trying to remember as I was doing your tip on managing the photos. My memory is about 5 seconds long or less. I'll be so happy to get off of these meds. LOL

This made me laugh out loud! (And then, twisted as I am, I started imagining an entire quilt made of decapitated animal prints...)

Freddie 03-28-2012 04:39 AM

I think the quilt looks beautiful, even with the corner s. We sometimes are our own worst critics! She is going to love it!!!

joyce888 03-28-2012 05:55 AM

I think the quilt is fantastic (even with the S in the block).
