Any members host Quilting Retreats?

I would like to know if any of our members host retreats. This would be so much fun to have retreats and sew with other board members. We would have a blast!

redquilter 06-09-2010 10:13 AM

I say we all go to Marsye's!

AnnaK 06-09-2010 10:20 AM

Wish I had a home large enough. It would be fun to meet some of our board buddies and have a ball sewing. I'll keep my eyes out on this post and see if anyone offers a retreat here. Great idea.

Our guild does sew-days and retreats all the time. This month it is a sew-day.
We start at 6a.m. and sew till we drop or quilt-til-you-wilt, usually about midnight.
Next month we will have a 3 day retreat. We rent the conference room at one of the local motels an have fun.

My dream is to have the space to host retreats.
At this time my sewing room will hold 4 - 5 machines 6 in a pinch and with a tight fit.
all are welcome, sleeping bags anyone?

texas granny 06-09-2010 05:50 PM

When I first got on line back in 96. I spent some time chatting. in Yahoo it had differnt rooms like and Austin room. I started having chat parties and meeting the differnt chatters. We had people come down from Canada and from all over texas to meet. We had a great time.
I found not everyone was truthful and those were the ones that didn't show up. Just a head up. I dought any quilters are like that. I wish you luck getting a retreat and getting everyone there.

craftybear, we are having one Aug 6 & 7, lots of space still available, and you are close enough! http://www.piecemakersquiltretreat.com

if anyone wants to plan a retreat for the KCMO area let me know. I might have a place for us to stay and to meet. there is a large kitchen, sleeping rooms and a huge area that will hold well over 300 people as well as some smaller classrooms. We just have to rent the space. It wouldn't be too expensive I don't think would have to ask about the pricing. Plus it is right by the freeway with a couple of hotels near by.

I will talk to my dad about how much it is to rent the facilities. I don't think that it will be more than 1000 to rent the facilities, not sure on how much it would be with using the dorm rooms. they fit between 5-15 people in each room. I think that we can comfortable sleep maybe 75. I will have to get the exact numbers. Craftybear, if you are wanting to plan it please pm me and I will get you the numbers exactly. Or anyone else who would like to plan it please pm me.
The grounds are great and we might even be able to use the upper level for tent camping. I will have to ask however.

sahm4605 06-11-2010 02:25 PM

it is only about 11 hours give or take. for driving. I know this because we used to drive from Acron Ohio to Quincy Il and it was about 12 or so hours. depending on how many stops we made. so Indianapolis to NY would be about the same time frame. It was about 6 hours to acron from upstate NY area.

Pam 06-11-2010 03:12 PM

sahm, where is this place? State, general area.

I think that is a great idea! She can take us to Marshall's Dry Goods. From her posts, I think we will all be well-fed! LOL

I am going to talk to my dearly beloved oh so sweet husband (can you tell I am going to have to do some sucking up?) and see if he would play stay at home dad for these days in August! After all this would be a GREAT mini-vacation for me considering he is going to Lake of the Ozarks for a golf tournament (four days) next month!
