I hope all is well with you & your families. I was just reading a "thread" about what kind of thread to use for hand applique(ing). I was wondering what thread is the best to use for machine applique(ing) :?: :?: I have a quilt that I am working on for my mom (only taken me 10 years & counting...) & I used regular polyester thread (coats & clark) brand. Any help, responses, & or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

use what ever thread is the right color and works in your machine for your project. if you used a poly thread and it worked that is great!
some times i use rayon thread, sometimes poly- sometimes silk- it depends on what i can find that is the correct weight and color for the applique i am doing.
there is no ...you can only use.... use what works for you and don't worry about it.

It depends somewhat on what type of machine applique you are doing.

If you are doing invisible machine applique, then the best thread will be invisible. I use YLI .003 monofilament nylon, but there are also polyester threads to consider and possibly even silk.

If you are doing satin stitch machine applique, you need to try out several types of thread to see what you like. It's not just the thread that matters in this case; stitch width matters a lot, and whether you want to make one pass or two. Regular and thick threads will fill in faster but, if you want a very narrow satin stitch, you may want to use a fine rayon thread or other fine thread.

If you are doing the type of black blanket stitching where you want the stitches to really show, either double a regular thread or try a thicker-than-usual thread. (To double thread, just take 2 spools and thread them together as if they were one thread, all the way through the needle.)

I'm not sure that there is a "best" thread. A lot depends on the machine and if the machine is picky about thread. A lot depends on the look you are going for and if the stitches are supposed to be visible (even decorative) or more blendy. I use whatever I have handy that fits the color scheme.
