Any suggestions for using Fabric Glue?

https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...s/confused.png I went to the store to purchase fabric glue. I want to attach ribbon to the handle of a fabric covered Easter Basket Handle. The fabric on the basket handle is stretchy poly. The glue I used said, Ok to wash it...permanent and dries clear.
Issue: The ribbon didn't bond well in places and the glue made the ribbon hard. Any suggestions from you for tried and true fabric glues? Thanks for your ideas!

Glue does sometimes make ribbon hard. I think I might get out some embroidery floss and do a fancy hand stitch over the ribbon to attach it along the handle.

I like using glue sticks for making projects like you are making. They can hold things in place nicely. If you are not going to be washing the project I would recommend Elmer's School Glue. I get the clear washable.
Keep in mind just about any glue washable or permanent will harden some.

can you just wrap the handle with the ribbon?

The best glue I found for fabric is Embroidery Glue. It dries clear and stays softer then other fabric glues. The brand is Clover.

https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif Thanks everyone for your responses. Wrapping the handle was a great idea, however I want to show off the cute print on the ribbon. I will remember that tip for the future. Good to know that there is a glue that stays softer ....Clover brand Embroidery Glue. Thanks onebyone.
