Was just wondering if anyone is expierenced at using one? Are they akward? Any good tips?
Thanks in advance? |
I don't hand quilt anymore but when I did I couldn't get used to Aunt Becky (kept sliding off) so I just used the end of a teaspoon to do the same thing. It was easier for me to hang onto.

I am going to watch this too...I always wandered if these worked and how ...LOL Carrie do you have one already?

I have only made one piece with "Aunt Becky" and my Barnett's laptop hoop, but it was definitely getting easier as I got toward the end.
It was very awkward for me at first, but by the time I'd been messing with it for a few hours, I was a lot more comfortable with keeping it on my finger, and making my fingers do what I wanted them to do - as with any new hobby, they all wanted to jump in and do everyone else's job. ;) I could see how it would eventually be much faster and easier on my hands than the usual hand-quilting and after a few more hours, I was actually having fun. Of course, my stitches are still huge - almost utility stitches. But, that's okay, we all start where we are. |
I bought one for me and my friend at Barnett's but I haven't got the rhythm of it. I don't use a hoop and I think that is the real problem.
However, this winter I am putting a quilt on my frame to quilt and I will try it then when I have tension on the quilt. Most of the time I just put the quilt in my lap and sew. |
Can you show a picture of the item? Curious

Ok, you have broke me down, I will tell you what I use, those little cheap plastic rings for kids.

My dear friends in Philomath Oregon Janni Lou invented the Aunt Becky. You rock it back and forth so the needle bounces off the top. www.jannilou.com Hopes this helps

I did the same thing!!!!!! and I pain 10 cents for it at a thrift store. It works just as well. Just bend the handle.
All you have to do is practice and the needle scrapes up the back of the spoon. It made my back stitches more uniform. The one complaint I heard was that 'AB' or the spoon will dull your needle faster. I didn't notice that it had.

I tried it but with my own hoop. Never could get the hang of it

I have one here and it will not work for me since I am left handed. So I will stay faithful to my hoop and a rocking stitch.
