anybody have a brother SQ9050 ????
 

I have a question about it...when sewing without the foot pedal, when i stop, i can hear a noise..almost like grinding, but not quite..just kind of a groaning type sound as the machine stops...is this normal? It sews beautifully, and I have no complaints..just never heard this noise on any machine before???

I have that machine and I hear no noise like that. My machine does sew beautifully. Wouldn't know where to tell you to begin checking. Is bobbin jammed?

I have a Brother Innovis 4000D. It was making that type sound. The first time it turned out to be a couple of itty, bitty threads caught up in the bobbin area & in the automatic threading mechanism. The next time, I had to buy a new bobbin case. It was catching the thread & making a huge birds nest. When the first problem occurred, I had not taken the machine in to be oiled for several years. The tech found the thread when he was servicing the machine. If you haven't had it in for a tuneup, now may be the time. FYI...There are no areas that show in the manual for a user to oil. There is a small screw on the back of the machine, right above the pressure foot. It allows you to take the cover off the head. I probably could have found the upper thread, but I definitely would not have known how to make the other adjustments to the unit. It really needed to go see the tech. lol

Should have mentioned that the thread cutting mechanism makes a grinding sound all the time.

Thank you all for the help. I will check for threads, lint, etc. first, then send it for a tune up if I can't find anything. I kind of knew in my gut that it wasn't normal...just hoping for the best!

I have your machine's older "Brother" the SQ9000. I haven't noticed any odd noises. I do know Brother machines are really finicky about lint or tiny pieces of threads in the bobbin area. Use a magnifying glass to get a better look.

Just found out that a quilt shop about an hour from me has the same model for their own use, and the lady said I can come out there and listen to her machine! I plan a trip out there next week..have to get my fabric wish list organized...I know I'll be shopping while I'm out there! LOL...so if the machine doesn't cost me to get it fixed, I will spend money on fabric..such is life!
