Anyone do wool applique on a quilt?

Found a pattern that I fell in love with that has both pieced blocks and wool applique blocks. I've done both but never in the same project. My question is do I make the whole quilt and then quilt, or do I quilt and then add the wool applique to the intended blocks? I simply don't want to "accidently" quilt over the wool applique. If this turn out like I hope it will I may enter it in the county fair.

I have the same question. I'm also thinking of using cotton background, quilting it then adding the wool applique. Any pro's or con's?

I don't know about wool applique, but when I do applique on a quilt, I do it after I quilt and bind the quilt. This way, there is quilting under the applique and no chance of quilting on the applique. I have done 2 queen/king quilts this way.

I never thought to applique after quilting. Sounds good though. I finish the entire quilt, and then quilt it, then bind it.
