I have a very hard time with "good enough", in my quilting as well as everything else. That doesn't mean that my quilts are perfect and without mistakes. I think we all do the best we can with the knowledge that we have at that time. That to me goes beyond "good enough."

I have yet to make a perfect quilt. I make quilts to used on beds or walls to be enjoyed. I do not make quilts for musuems. or for big prise shows. I make quilts because I need to make things and I love making quilts. If seams do not match, or points are nipped off, well when it is all done even I have hard time finding it and I know where to look. Perfect is in the eye of the beholder.

my fundamental of quilting instructor keeps reminding of the importance of accuracy with cutting, sewing and ironing but also reminds us of the galloping horse rule-if you wouldn't notice it from a galloping horse then it may not be worth fixing.
and besides that its a art not a science. science is supposed to be precise but since its an art its our means of expression. so what ever makes you happy is perfect. (so you can tell my work is far from perfect!)

Amish quilters make mistakes on purpose. They say, "The intention is to serve as a reminder that nothing man ever does is perfect, only God is perfect."

If I waited for perfect quilt I would never have finished any quilt that I have made. Good enough it just right for most quilts, All most perfect is good enough for the others and just plain done with it is for the ones that start out OK and end up frustrating me to the point the I don't care what it looks like as long as I'm finished sewing on it.

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, for putting into words how I feel about my quilting. It's almost always good enough for me but I am self conscious about my work when presenting it to others. Although I get wonderful compliments, I think they are just being nice. Being nice is good enough for me too. I just want to enjoy the experience

I think you would fit in nicely with Kaye Wood's programs for "pointless people". She has a number of projects which turn out looking really well because the points don't have to match. Sometimes, I think that the "Quilt Police" are a bit like the "Cobweb Chasers" who check out the status of your housework in order to comment upon it at the next gossip session. If you enjoy doing something I wouldn't worry about it's "Show Status" - we need members to keep the craft alive.

well, here is how I go about it.
I do strive for that elusive perfection...you know why?
Bc if I don't keep reaching for it, man, can I make a big mess.
Never have gotten there, and probably never will...that's ok.
After so many times of doing something over, I get exhausted and at that point it is no longer fun.
Fun is what I want, so I'll keep trying, but I won't make myself crazy about it.
By the way, other ppl's "personal touches" don't bother me a bit. I see with my heart. That's what I'm hoping my family will do ;)

I have lots of UFO's, some because early on I picked things way beyond my skill level. One I had to take completely apart and start over. It is now sandwiched and ready to be tied. One of the others is finished as a top but still waiting for me to figure out how to achieve the desired look in the quilting. The rest are just waiting...

In general 'good enough' works great for me. I do continue to learn and improve, but getting all stressed out because something isn't perfect is not on my agenda!

Sorry but, "good enough" just ain't ever good enough for me.
