Anyone have any tips for Diamond blocks?
 

I have a precut Diamond kit. Large ones appliqued to center of block and small ones where blocks meet.

Anyone have tips?

I was thinking of the dryer sheet technique for turning edges on the small ones but I'm not sure it will work with so many points.

I know I have to handle with care because it's bias cut. I'm afraid to press anything until I have all units assembled.

I should have assembled one so I could check seam allowance and adjust if necessary but I got into a chain piecing frenzy. :)

I had to make some for a block exchange and I starched the heck out of the fabric. Press very carefully and stitch slowly but accurately. You might do a test block first for accuracy and then to refer to. Good Luck.

They're actually stars made from diamonds.

I use fusible lightweight interfacing to most all bias pieces before cutting. For pre cut bias, I would use the fusible interfacing tape and fuse to the edges. The bias isn't stretching anywhere with the interfacing backing it.

The stars look like they'll be okay, but I tried the dryer sheet trick on half a unit( kit had extras for booboos)and it was a epic fail!

It might work on circles but definity not stars!

I have only just starched/best pressed, cut carefully and checking angles exceedingly often, then sewed. Never used any foundation or paper for these. They turned out beautifully.

I don't trust precuts to be accurate, so I would still measure the angles frequently.

Are you going to be sewing these diamonds into the stars? If so you must leave 1/4" at end for turn under.

If you can make a Mylar template of the point of the star to the sewed seam - but make sure it's the finished size of that star point, put on wrong side of fabric and press down the 1/4" seam.....some will remove the Mylar and brush a bit of starch on that turn under....but doing this on all points of each star will make it easy to then sew them onto the block, either by hand or machine.....just one way of doing it...

I'm just doing it the old fashioned way.

Turning 1/4 inch on wrong side and basting in a contrasting color.

The points are a little tricky but I'm managing. :)
