anyone have quilting dreams?

I quilt in my dreams. Patterns will come to me sometimes. I have a notebook by my bedside so I can sketch out what I dreamed.

My most wierd dream I had was after I had watched Will Smith's "I Am Legend" the end of the world with the virus that turned most everyone into weird vampire/zombie type things. At the end a car is heading towards some other group that has survived.

I dreamed that I went from fabric store to fabric store stocking up on LQS quality fabric, batting and supplies and I think I spent the entire night trying to figure out which vehicle would hold the most quilting supplies and how I'd pack it to get the most stuff in. Where the sewing machine would be most protected and if the window was opened could I get 2 or 3 rolls of batting? Did I want open windows? Hey, everyone else is a vampire the quilting world is my oyster right? It was so strange that I still remember it.

Anyone else dream quilts? Ok, maybe not zombie apocalypses....

Only when I am having a problem! Like if the thread and machine want to do their own thing and don't want me in control. Of if I can't find something I just had!!

DOTTYMO 02-02-2013 03:12 AM

I dream designs. When I have an idea for a quilt I have a mind whirling in ideas and pictures and at night they seem to move around and fall in place . I take a mental picture for the next day. Ps I never draw the design it is always from memory.

When I first started quilting ... without aid of classes or books or anything, I was trying to figure out on my own the difference in size between two squares that I would cut to make a square of HST's and the size of the finished square made up of the HST's. I struggled and struggled with limited fabric. Went to bed and in the middle of the night I woke up, sat bolt upright and loudly proclaimed "SEVEN EIGHTS!!!". Scared the wits out of my sleeping husband.

I often go to sleep thinking about quilting. Planning and figuring out how to get what I'm going for tends to be what ny brain does. Even when I'm not in front of my machine I'm quilting. No matter where I am quilting is on my mind in some form or another.

Yes for me too, I often dream of the way I want a top to look if I'm kind of stumped on it. I get up the next day and draw it out on a piece of paper.

I also think up patterns in my dreams.

You are just too funny......I was reading your post....and I was like ....why didn't I think of that....zombie apocalypse = FREE FABRIC.

To be serious though, I think a lot of us have quilty / quilt related dreams.... after all, dreams are often where we sort out our daily life.

About a year ago I couldn't decide how to quilt a baby quilt that was going to be a gift. I kept dreaming about it until it was finished. I'm not usually so stressed about a quilt, but this on was special and I wanted it to be perfect. It was, but it kept waking me up. I was so glad to have it finished. The zombie quilt sounds like fun.

I told my dh the next morning, he was offended that he didn't have a place in the car.

I dream about fabric and quilts all the time.I lay awake and think about too-never ending

pyffer3 02-02-2013 07:52 PM

I thought it was just me! LOL....my latest dreams have been of taking narrow stips and weaving them in and under tightly together into about 12 inch blocks including a border they are attached to and then sewing the blocks together. My other dream that has me stumped is that my husband has requested a Notre Dame quilt. I have spent a lot of time looking for Notre Dame themed fabric or designs. Nothing, Nada, Zip! So, I thought I would just do an ND design in navy blue on a gold background maybe with a shamrock border(?) not sure....see what dreams do to you. I could go on but why bother, you all know my pain!

I subscribe to a newsletter that I get several times a week in my email. One such newletter had a picture of a sewing machine cover pattern. It was the last thing I read before going to sleep one night.

All night long all my dreams consisted of making these covers. Some were rag quilt style, a few were really fancy, and some were just plain ugly. The one that haunted me all night was one made with eyelash fabric. I woke up thinking about this and went to my computer and deleted that email...lol

I definitely have quilting dreams. I've dream whole tutorials on a new project or just solved problems I was having with a current project. It all seems to simple in the morning!

Sachis2112 02-04-2013 09:56 AM

Ha! I'm painting my sewing/knitting/spinning room (newly acquired room, took it from the hubby) and I have yet to set up my sewing machine but, I'll be darned... I've been dreaming of quilting all day long.

KwiltyKahy 02-04-2013 03:46 PM

And I bet he never lets you forget it, either.

Have you tried BearPawquilting.com? They have a lot of the schools fabric and I know that ND used to print so the odds are good.

Idea for a school quilt

I looked around for ND fabric and while a few sites had it advertised on their page, I could not find any to order. Here are two pictures of a USC quilt I made. I scanned the logo and enlarged it on my printer. Then I traced it out of Steam a seam and made my own iron on applique. I know i Had USC fabric for my blocks, but you could do something similar with just the school colors. I know its not the same, but just an idea...hope this helps...

soccertxi 02-05-2013 03:01 PM

PS...I also quilt in my sleep..my DH said I cannot quilt on my frame past 8:30 at night...seems I thrash around in the bed all night trying to quilt! now i just toddle off to the sewing machine and piece for awhile!

Pat625 02-05-2013 03:50 PM

I eat sleep and dream quilts...I too keep a notebook to write things down, or otherwise I would never be able to get back to sleep worrying about forgetting ..I also lay there doing the math to determine fabric amounts while trying to fall asleep...I am not working because of disabilty, so my life is not so structured, and if I don't get much sleep at night, I can get it later!! ..I love the apocalypse dream... Luckily none of mine have been that vivid...After reading several novels about the Amish, I did have a series of dreams that I was in an Amish quilting bee..That's the joke!! I would be shunned in a day!! Everyone enjoy your dreams and keep on coming up with your great ideas!!

Sometimes. On those nights, I wake up and I am disappointed that the stack of finished quilts is not really there where I left them. ;)
