Anyone have a Viking Designer Machine? I Got my thread jammed
 

I could use some advise on getting my thread out of a jam. I was sewing along without treading the needle (I assume) and then the message came on to check the upper thread. I have un-thread it from the spool backwards and got it to where the little arm goes up and down...now it is stuck tight. Is there a way to fix this without taking it to the dealer?

Did you turn it on and off? I would take it to the dealer so as not to make a bigger problem. They may be able to fix it without charging you anything. You have a wonderful machine. kept mine for years until i got the Diamond.

You are aware that the little cover comes off so you can see the whole thread track? If not, just reach down under the white plastic above the needle area and pull up carefully, it should lift straight up and reveal the take up arm. If you can snip the thread and release it, even if a little knot stays there, you can continue to sew. That little knot won't hamper anything. Also, use either dental floss or a serger chain of thread and run it through between the tension plates (only go one way, not back and forth like flossing) both sides to dislodge any little bits.

My Viking Sapphire does this all the time and it is very frustrating. The dealer could not find any problem. let me know if you figure out a solution, please!

You might try just advancing the handwheel as well. My friend's Sapphire got stuck like that at one point. Neither of us could figure it out. She took it to the dealer. They advanced the handwheel. Presto. All fixed.

I did NOT know this! Thanks...so many years and still learning! I did get the tread out...I am so impatient...couldn't wait for answers! ha ha. I used a long tube turning hook and kept sticking it in until I caught the right thread and got it loose. I do use the floss on my machine every once in a while... Thanks...maybe someone else will find this useful.

Also, make sure that the presser foot is all the way up.
