Anyone Here Used Sharon Schamber's Applique Stabilizer?
 

If you have, thoughts? Pictures? Is there a similar alternative that's less pricey out there? I'm thinking of ordering this but it's expensive! Thanks!

When I took an applique class from her several years go we used Rinsaway. The product on her website is 5 yards so that is less than $4.00 yard which is kinda the norm. If you look at joann.com they carry Rinsaway for $4.49/yard but it is 45" wide. I have some and like it. Actually I forgot I had it. Need to get it out! Her method is sewing the applique piece to her product right sides together then turning it right side out. I dont know if she uses this for machine embroidery applique but I doubt it. I think it is only for machine applique. Eleanor Burns also uses this method using regular fusible interfacing.

sulky also makes a rinse away stabilizer- but you can use a lightweight stabilizer that does not rinse away- stays in- which is much less expensive---her price is about the norm- within a few cents- but then you do have to figure in shipping charges.

I thought her stabilizer was only 18" wide? Maybe I misread. Now her stabilizer is supposed to change from a paper to a fiber when wet - does rinse away do the same?

I ran and checked...it's 19" wide and you get 5 yards - so - it'd be over $8 a yard if it were 45" wide. Eep! :)

I read it's about the same as Stable Stuff. Stable Stuff comes in a package of 50 sheets 8 1/2" x 11" for $9.98. It's great. Once washed it turns to very thin poly fabric.

That translates to $1.30/yd. a little narrower than most on the bolt but still better. I got a 60% coupon from Joanns which I used on a bolt of washaway stabilizer for embroidery.

I tried Sharon Schamber's stabilizer, but found that I like good old freezer paper better. The stabilizer is very soft; I find I get a better turned-under edge easier with freezer paper. Of course, the disadvantage of freezer paper is that you need to remove it, but I don't mind that. I have developed streamlined techniques for cutting out freezer paper shapes and for removing the paper after cutting away the background, so it goes pretty fast for me.
