ANyone with a Janone memory craft? Can you help me?

I have seen and heard about this machine and would like to 'talk' to someone that has it. Please read this posting via CL and let me know what you think about it. Is this something I should look into or not?

I have the 9000 pictured in the ad. It's a fabulous machine. It may be an easy fix or it may be a costly one. It's sort of a gamble, but one could easily get $100 back out of it by selling the parts and accessories. The tray in front opens up and should have quite a few feet, as does the top of the machine. I love my 9000 and it's about 14 years old with no problems. You'll have to judge if you want to take a gamble and go through the efforts of parting it out if it's too expensive to repair. Hope this helps.

It sounds to me like either the feed dogs are down or the bobbin winding clutch was left engaged and the owner doesn't know how to pop it off. I think it's a good gamble, myself. One of my machines is an older predecessor, the MC 7000, and it still runs like a champ.

I have this machine and was thinking just what smanry said here. Also, it seems to be missing the embroidery hoop and there is only the one card with it. They may still cost about $50 each, not sure what the hoop goes for. It's hard to see whether the bobbin post is pushed into winding position, which would be the reason the screen says what it does. If you buy it, expect to pay a minimum of $100 for service. As with new cars, where you need computer expertise to fix it, a computerized machine can't be tinkered with the way you can with an old Singer or something. I love my Jan, but it is kind of a "pig in a poke" to buy it this way. I still think it sure has potential. I paid half price for mine when they came out with the MC1000.

Just looked back at this, and what Candace mentioned about other feet, etc. is sadly not the case. The second small picture shows the parts bin open and there only seems to be one foot in there. Someone either lost all the accessories, or sold them off separately.

Is this a computerized machine??

Well I call it that because it has a computer of some sort with the digital screen. It does not connect to a computer to download patterns - that came in the 10000 that replaced it. Electronic, anyway. It's not something I'd tinker with as I might with a Featherweight.

My husqvarna viking machine stopped winding the bobbin and it was because the computer board had gone on it. All the other features worked except the bobbin and the needle up/down. It cost me between $300-350 to get it fixed, that was a few years ago. The Janome sounds like a deal but look around on ebay and some other sites for current prices. After getting it serviced & fixed plus getting more feet you might have spent what a working machine would cost and it could be a headache getting the machine running the way you want it. Might not hurt to call a Janome store and talk to the technician, I've found that they will usually give you an idea of what might possibly be wrong and a rough estimate to fix it.
