Anyone Know this Technique?
I saw a quilt recently, (unfortunately, now I can't find it!), and the blocks were made of thin strips of fabric scattered on a background, sort of like pick-up-sticks. The thin strips went every which way and wove under each other.
If anyone knows what I'm talking about, I'd love to know more about the technique. Thanks, Watson |
Try Paul's Block Party Pickup Sticks Quilt on Google to find a tutorial for making such a quilt. Not sure if it is what you are looking for.

I'm going to give that one a try-even yet tonight. That is really neat. Maybe I will make mine bigger and make it into a pillow top. Thank you, Watson, for asking the question and thank you, QuiltnNan for the link. I am back on the board tonight because I have hit a mental roadblock with my project. That will be better in the morning.

That is a neat pattern, looks like it would be fun. Putting it in the que, lol.

Your description reminds me of this one that MaryKatherine posted, back in the fall ....

Looks cute and easy.

Here is a similar one from a book Accent on Angles. I bought the book several months ago just to have the pattern. I still haven't tried it. Dragon Bones...scroll down just a bit.

That first one, pauls block party, looks like it, except there were a LOT more sticks and the designer had cut the block into a circle when she was done and put it on a background. She said in the article she had discovered a new technique to make it go faster.
I wrote the name of the book down, but my husband "cleaned up" and now I can't find the little bit of paper I wrote it on. I love that Dragon Bones quilt! Watson |
I found it! For some reason it just popped into my head.

Illinois, MaryKatherine is a member of this board. She is a lovely talented fiber artist that I was privileged to meet last year. Why not send her a PM with your question?

Circle idea is intriguing. There are a lot of those strips, wonder what the back looks like.....bet is a bit tricky keeping it from pocketing. Let us know how it works........

A couple weeks ago, Fonz & Porter showed a Pick Up Sticks quilt that Marianne had made. It was more like a Tic-Tac-Toe layout of sticks, but some had more than the four sticks to a block. Good luck with your quilt and will be looking forward to a picture when you are finished.
