Anyone know what this pattern is?

I recently learned to paper piece, and I think this pattern is pieced. I was in a bee with this quilter, and I asked her the name, but she hasn't responded. Thank you in advance for any help!

It's identified as Foldstar by Ula Lenz. That's all I could find.

nancylee 02-08-2013 02:52 PM

Thank you! How did you ever find it?

If you're handy with a ruler and a pencil, you could make your own pattern!!! I LIKE it!

I have this (or very similar) in EQ. If you let me know what size you want I'll make a PDF for you.

That is a really lovely star. Thanks for sharing it. This would make a fine beginner PP pattern. I also like it with centers that are not plain.

nativetexan 02-08-2013 06:20 PM

I used to have her link in my Favorites but it's been changed. She had lovely PP stars for free on her site. and other patterns too. shame.

You're very welcome!

Here's a slightly more complicated version of the same star, along with the quilt that it makes. It looks great in warm browns, reds, oranges and tans on a cream background.

Enjoy!

Ula Lenz's site http://www.lenzula.de/en/ states that her site has changed on Feb 1st, and that her hearts and stars patterns will be posted shortly. Hopefully she will post this Foldstar pattern. She was highlighted in an article in Quilters World magazine Aug 2007 that you can find here: http://www.lenzula.de/en/press.html. If you wish, you can click on the bottom right corner of each of the pages to magnify them and read the article.

Is the Foldstar pattern a combination of the first star I posted with other blocks? Or is Foldstar what she calls the block? I've got the star in EQ (Blockbase) as New Star from Aunt Kate's, dated 1964. Is there a picture of the hearts and star pattern you referred to? I'd love to see other combinations with this block. It's so versatile, and adding one or two more lines changes the whole look.

Thanks for the info!

WOW I really like it. I would definitely take advantage of LyndaOH's generous offer. Good luck.

She is a true artist.

Suz 02-10-2013 05:36 AM

This star is very similar to the one at Missouri Star Quilting. Jenny is teaching a star from an older quilt which she had purchased. It is the backdrop in several of her teachings.

LyndaOH, thank you very much! Isn't this board just wonderful!?

I think it's a free block of the month on this site, if I did it right

I've never done paper piecing, but this looks like a good place to start. Thanks Lynda

Check out Carol Doak's on YouTube. She is great for paper piecing. She has a lengthy piece there on how to paper piece. I have her DVD and the YouTube version is almost the same one. Very informative and lots of great tips.
