I have had to put on hold my jacket. I am having some sort of skin problem that has me in severe pain. God only knows how this happened. I am medicating and sleeping as much as I can to try and wait it out.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hope it is not shingles.

Yikes! Tis the season. I've been having some skin issues since the summer. Thankfully, mine are mostly just rashy and a bit itchy but not actually painful. Hope you get better soon

I made a sweatshirt quilted jacket (split the front of the sweatshirt and sew strips to it). The finished jacket looked beautiful but I cold barely bend the arms so I made it into a vest that I pretty much wore out. It was very heavy and very warm so it was my go to in the fall and winter. If I made it again I would cut off the sweatshirt sleeves, used them as a pattern for a lightweight slick lining fabric.

I too am working on a quilted jacket. I have the pieces (made larger than needed) ready to quilt. These postings have been very welcome and I’ve been considering what to use for the sleeves. What are your thoughts on a micro fiber sheet? I have one that I’ve only used a couple of times because it seemed too slick for my tastes.

I am going to make a jacket using a sweatshirt. It seems fairly simple but any tips you could share would be appreciated. This has been on my list for quite some time. What did you use for closure in the front and did you cut the band off of the bottom and sleeves? Thank you in advance for your advice!

For mine, I used a large toothed zipper.
I left the bands on both the sleeves and bottom.
Gosh, that seems like a 100 yrs ago ... but only in the 80s!

Now, you have me thinking of doing this with one of my current sweatshirts.

I have found the thinnest, least fluffy flannel (at Michael's) that I've ever touched and will use it for the lining of my quilt jacket, hopefully this will keep it from being stiff or heavy (no batting will be used). Sleeves have been done for a few weeks and I have (finally!) finished piecing the back section and now going on to the front sides. Patch pocket decisions must be made first. lol

Sorry I haven't been around. I have the shingles. Wow! I cannot concentrate on anything or move around hardly at all.
If you ever had the chicken pox when you were a kid, go and get the shingles shot. Save yourself from extreme pain.

So sorry you have shingles, RedGarnet222! I have had it twice in my life - once at age 10, then in my 50s. It isn't fun. Get plenty of rest, eat healthily, and do whatever your doctor tells you. Hoping you'll recover very soon!
