Anyone paper piece?

Hello. I am wanting to try paper piecing and wondered at a nice easy pattern to start out with? I don't mind a bit abstract. Thanks!

Visit Carol Doak's website. She has many free patterns, great tutorials, hints, tips. In some circles she is considered the queen of paper piecing.

I used Carol Doak's 'Easy Mix and Match'. It has lots of pieces you can combine and each one is only a 4" block so you aren't wasting too much time or fabric.

I learned from You Tube and Jenny Doan.

I made a few Hexagons with 1 row but could never figure out what to do with them! LOL I have to say it is time consuming but also very relaxing. It was like "quiet time" for me. Like others have suggested, check out YouTube. And Jenny Doan makes EVERYTHING clear and easy (love that lady)!

I learned from Judy Niemeyer, http://www.quiltworx.com/patterns/

Indian Summer was my first paper pieced quilt. I have made several of her patterns.

Do you have an idea of what kind of design you might like ... geometric, floral/nature, animals, landscape? There are many resources that include stylized (simple) versions of each; in addition, it really isn't difficult to make your own paper foundation patterns. For my first paper piecing project, I took a design I was struggling to get right & made a paper foundation for it to help me get more accurate results. It was really quick & easy.

Peggy Martin and Carol Doak have been my teachers-both have classes on Craftsy which are excellent!

I did some searching and The Electric Quilt Company has some paper piecing software called Town and Country Patchwork for $14.99 (half off). I don't know anything about it but the price is reasonable.

I love the Carol Doak patterns also. I did the 50 paper pieced stars book here on QB, she makes it easy by providing cut rectangle sizes for the pieces. Yes, it does create a lot of small triangles as waste. But, I have found after using other paper piece projects. IT's so much easier to have precut squares.
