Anyone sewn a laptop cover?
 

I would like to sew one, have looked but patterns I see are maybe a little more than I want to do. Thanks for any help.

I've got the Phlipphap (sp) bag pattern but think it is a bit more than I want to do too so am trying to figure out my own. I figure you take the measurements of your machine, add allowance for padding (I have some compressed foam from a sleeping bag mat to use for shock absorbtion), zipper, etc. Can't be any more difficult than a project bag. Also might want to add an outer pocket for accessories ---battery pack, charger, external drive. I'm leaning toward using a prequilted fabric for lining and vamping the heck out of whatever I use for the outer fabric. i.e. embroidery or applique on a pieced background or even a whole cloth one. Or I may just take the carrier I purchased and cover it with my fabric. Possibilities abound.

Yes some of the patterns are overwhelming and I do not want to spend tons of time sewing this up, I did think of putting outer pockets for the cords, etc. I would like to put handles on it as well, guess it will take some time to figure all of this out. Thanks for your reply.

A laptop cover can be as simple as an envelope made of denim or upholstery fabric, or a super-custom creation with pockets, zippers, padding, handles, etc. I am making custom covers for e-readers (NOOK, KINDLE, ETC). Due to the small size and very fragile nature of them I am adding padding and a layer of thin plastic stiffener to protect the screen.
They only take a couple of hours to make, including pockets for library card, etc. They really aren't that much work to make.

The jean video sure is simple and ends up looking good. And she hand sewed, my gosh. I hope she hand sews better than I do, because the laptop might slip through to the floor, although if I sewed by machine, it would work. Easy for sure. Thank you for directing me there. This might be something good for GS's portable dvd player.

Years ago, I made a very simple one, for my DD. It's really just a quilted "sleeve." It has straps, for carrying, which go completely around the bottom and back up (all in one piece, with one one seam for both straps). I was going to put a closure onto it but she saw it, before it was finished, and couldn't wait. Anyway, it's about as simple as can be . . . and took hardly any time, to make.
