Anyone use these rulers for blocks?

Much as I don't like to admit it, I am an easy hit for a new quilting gadget. I saw these online today and wonder if anyone has used them. Supposedly they make the cutting of triangles and HSTs foolproof, if that is possible. Your comments are welcome before I part with more cash.

Looked at them on line, intrigued, haven't spent the money

pocoellie 03-10-2014 06:17 AM

Personally speaking, I'm not one for buying every single specialty ruler they have, I have a 4x13, 6x24 ruler, 9" and 12 1/2" square and my June Tailor Shape Cut ruler, these more than serve my purpose. As far as I'm concerned, the Shape Cut ruler is my go to ruler, as far as I'm concerned, it's the best thing since sliced bread.

One of the ladies in my quilting group demonstrated these for us on Saturday. They looked pretty easy to use, and she loves them. Says triangles come out perfect every time!

I would definitely buy if I had some extra money!!

AliKat 03-10-2014 07:02 AM

They work only if you work ... seam allowance wise, I would think. Not sure of the need for this as add ing the amount for seam allowances.

However I like their ruler when I am making just one block per month and rush to finish it. I have gone from a 'finish it as soon as you get it' quilter to a last minute quilter.

Mariposa 03-10-2014 07:11 AM

I have not seen these. They may be good for some, but don't think I will buy~

PaperPrincess 03-10-2014 08:09 AM

Look interesting, but for HST & QST I like to cut larger then trim.

QuiltnNan 03-10-2014 08:24 AM

i wouldn't buy them because i do OK with a regular ruler... but i did enjoy watching their animated demonstration :)

Annie Pearl 03-10-2014 08:50 AM

I'm a sucker for gadgets too. I've spent good money on things I'll use once or twice. I think it's addiction. I don't think I'm even going to look at them.

Onebyone 03-10-2014 08:58 AM

I don't mind at all admitting I will buy any new quilting tool. How will I know if it is something I'll like to use if I don't try it. I'd like to hear from someone that does have this and their opinion. I don't pay attention to posts saying I don't need it if the poster hasn't used it.

DeneK 03-10-2014 10:06 AM

I was thrilled with the idea and bought them when first introduced. Not even produced yet and I waited for them. Sad to say, they don't do anything for me. I have tried them a couple of times. Would be happy to part with them for a fraction of what I paid.

This is what works for me to. Starch them before I do a final trim. Perfect HST and flying geese.

All I know is: it is easy to buy rulers you will probably never use. I have some I thought I would use, had them for years and not used them yet.

Nammie to 7 03-10-2014 06:08 PM

The rulers look interesting but I'm afraid I would lose the attachments. Just as easy for me to use my regular rulers. Let us know if you like them.

DebbieJJ 03-12-2014 03:08 AM

Well, I did buy these as a new quilter......they are still in the pack! I guess I really need to pass them along!

citruscountyquilter 03-12-2014 03:12 AM

They see expensive for me when I can just add the seam allowance and cut with my regular ruler.

winia 03-12-2014 03:45 AM

HSTs are so easy to make. Why bother with another ruler?

ljptexas 03-12-2014 04:11 AM

Looks kind of complicated. But no thanks, I'll just use that $ for something other.
I love PP!!! All of my blocks are done PP.. So if I see a pattern I like, I'll try to draw out my own pattern.

I PM'd you.

The 2 rulers that make my life easier are the cutting ruler with the blade in the ruler and the June Tailor shape cutter.
I have other rulers for other uses but for cutting material these are the greatest in my book.

celwood 03-12-2014 06:21 AM

I purchased them and also purchased the guides to add 1/4 seams and enlarge. The ruler comes with a rubberized strip on the long edges that is supposed to stop ruler from moving. Supposedly these strips can be put on other rulers too. I found that the strips kept falling off so I had to super glue them to the ruler and therefore made them permanent to their ruler.

Grandma Kathy 03-12-2014 07:16 AM

I am such a gadget person. Could see myself buying these.

Snooze2978 03-12-2014 07:22 AM

I have them but haven't really used them much. I tend to cut on the wrong mark when using my regular rulers so thought this would help me from making so many wrong cuts. Think I've used them once since acquiring them and they do what they said they do. My only complaint is that when I put them together in an L" shape to cut lengths, the adapter gets in the way or I have it attached wrong which could be my problem more so than theirs.

junipergal 03-12-2014 07:56 AM

One of the wonderful reasons to pay all that money for quilt magazines is the new ways of cutting and assembleing your quilt tops. If you have the new Missouri Star Quilt Block mag look on page 13. After quilting for decades I find this method of making hst is just amazing, very accurate, give it a try and forget most (all) of the rulers that are for triangles!

SueSew 03-12-2014 10:40 AM

Looks interesting, but when I think that I can read a ruler myself, I get annoyed and don't want to pay for them!

mirish2 03-12-2014 11:28 AM

I find using the easy angle and the June Tailor products to provide the most accurate work. I,too have a number of rulers that I thought looked great, but were a waste of $.

Delilah 03-12-2014 12:08 PM

I bought them, hated them and sent them back for refund.

quilter2090 03-12-2014 12:17 PM

I had checked this out a while back and came to the conculsion that I didn't need it. I have a Wonder Ruler to make HST'S and Quarter square triangles. I also have the June Tailor Shape Cut ruler, by far my fave ruler.

sdeaaz 03-12-2014 01:48 PM

I didn't see a price?? I probably wouldn't take the time to figure it all out..... :-0

caspharm 03-12-2014 03:16 PM

I actually bought these and have since sold them. I am also a sucker for new gadgets, but when I bought them a couple of years ago I found that they were not made of the best plastic (they really flexed a lot) and are somewhat more complicated than just having a regular ruler.

duckydo 03-12-2014 04:29 PM

I bought them but I guess I am too dumb to figure them out, I have never used them.

Island Queen 03-12-2014 04:30 PM

I was going to buy these at Christmas for myDIL and myself but never got around to it.
for those that sent them back -what didn't you like?

BettyGee 03-12-2014 05:06 PM

Very slick advertising, but I don't think I'd part with my quilting budget money for "gadgets." I'm a sucker for quilting gadgets, but I think I'd pass on these. Animation is great, but it is the ultimate product that has to perform and I really don't see these as being any different than any other ruler out there.

I wish I had the money I've paid on stuff that is still in my ruler tub. Those quilt show vendors are my downfall every time. Only item I bought at a quilt show that I absolutely love are the Slide Lock rulers, they are worth every cent.

amyjo 03-12-2014 05:16 PM

I bought them, but haven't used them yet. I am a little put off by some of the tricks that are in the videos. My computer doesn't work too good right now, since I got stuck with some virus at some site I went to. The flash player I need can't be loaded because I got stuck with that one, got the virus from a fake site.

letawellman 03-12-2014 05:30 PM

This is a very slick-looking animation/demo. I had looked at it before, but decided I was fine with my AccuQuilt dies.
I use my AccuQuilt HST die for all my HST's. I put the two fabrics together in the die (right sides together), and then cut. When I take the cut pieces out, they're ready to stitch right then - no matching needed, because they were cut together. And the corners are already clipped, so that shows me for sure that my seam allowance is correct (or not, as the case may be, if I'd been doing embroidery prior to that)

mjhaess 03-13-2014 12:23 PM

I never seem them before this...Thanks for posting...
