Anyone used fabric turning tubes ???

I get the concept...my question is about the length of fabric you can do..are you limited to the length of the tube or can you do 2 or 3 foot sections??? I am considering this as an aide for stained glass quilts, but if I can only do small pieces, then it's the wrong gizmo for this purpose.
I am presently using the bias tape maker...thanks...Donna

I have a set of those tubes. Mine was given to me by a friend & the brand is: Turn-it-All
It says on the back that the three sizes of tubes make it possible to quickly turn any size or length of material. I've only used it a few times & for short pieces.
This is what I have:

Yes, you can turn fabric longer than the tube. You push the fabric on the tube & ruche it up. 2 or 3 feet should be fine.

*Nodding at PaperPrincess* I've used my fabric turning tubes a lot. The only limitation on the length is how much you can scrunch down on the tube.

Absolutely. I don't use mine often, but when I need them they really come in handy.

Mine are called Fast Turn. Best thing I ever bought,

ckcowl 04-02-2017 09:48 PM

I have fastturn from Fons & Porter. Love them! I've turned pieces that were over 20" long without problems. I use mine a lot. Great for turning ties for aprons, or any mumber of items.

Yakkity 04-02-2017 11:39 PM

Just used my turning tubes a lot yesterday. Turned several 42" long tubes. Worked great with scrunching. Most I had ever used them. Glad I had them.

Eleanor burns, on quilt in a day, uses this technique often in her you tubes. But she uses a straw and a metal tool/stiletto with a ball on the end to use as a pusher down the drinking straw.

I have the Fast Turn tubes and they are in several sizes. I like them a lot.

I have the Fast Turn tubes and have had them for years. I love them. I just turned bag handles that were each 29" in length for 7 bags and was done in a fraction of the time!

I bought this set about 8 years ago: http://www.fasturn.net/combo-set-1/ I use it for wide tote handles to narrow stems. Works great. The original price tag on the combo set in plastic case is $29.99. The set sure has increased in price!

I have turning tubes and used them alot when I did boutiques and now I just use them occasionally but you can pull or scrunch your fabric down and get more on the tube. I love mine and have had them for a long time.

RECONSIDER USING TUBES FOR BIAS TAPE FOR STAINED GLASS QUILTS.

If you are making the tubes to use between the sections of the stained glass, take a look at Clover Quick Bias Fusible Tape. It is .25 inch wide with each edge folded in and is available in several colors. Black is stunning for the stained glass.
Jo-Ann's coupons makes it reasonably priced.

I took a class at Paducah quilt show to make stain glass quilt blocks. The Clover Quick Bias Fusible Tape in black or metallic gold was required. It is perfect for the stain glass look.

I've had my Fasturn tubes for many years. I use them all the time!

Ikesgram 04-04-2017 06:55 AM

I have had Fasturn tubes for about 20 years. At first I used them for making sashes and other trims for
little girls clothes because my first three grands were girls and their uncles were marrying and needing
flower girls and junior brides to add to the brides' family

Since the girls have grown, bags and spaghetti straps are still needed and Grandma and Mother still love those
Tubes . Stems and other quilting needs are still more uses for the Tubes.

A good buy!!!

I love mine also. I don't know how long of a tube it would turn though. I would think you could do a couple feet, maybe more. Oh, I just seen where Yakkity turned 42" tubes. They are a must in my tools though. I have used them so much. They sure make the process easy.

I just made a skinny hanging sleeve for my Easter fold n stitch wreath and could have dug out my turner set but did it with my fingers. I have had my set of those turners for eons!

Also, you can sew the bias strip right side out, then trim the seam allowance to about 1/8" and press flat with the seam centered enough to hide it as you attach it. Use Elmer's Schoo glue and an iron for placement and stitch both sides. Old fashioned ideas still work.

Clover bias makers also great for appliqué stems.

I like the fusible tape. Just lay where you want it and press. It stays put and then I stitch both sides. I'm a lazy quilter and very miserly with my time.

A few years back our guild made table runners from fabric tubes. We used these to turn the fabric inside out. Then you wove the fabric tubes together and added borders. It would have been an onerous task without one. I can't remember the name of the pattern. I do remember it used an incredible amount of fabric for a table runner. But the tube turners really worked.
