Ah. You guys have given me some good ideas on how to try to deal with the few I have left to remove.

I am not an expert by any means but what I did was cut my hearts, iron freezer paper to the wrong side, then press 1/4 under. I removed the paper, basted hearts where I wanted them & then blanket stitched it in place.It was a lot of steps but it worked great. The stabizer would be encased within the 1/4 allowance. I guess I am anal about having unfinished edges. I love the blanket stitch look though.

I do lots of raw edge fusible applique and what I do is starch fabric heavy before cutting pieces and fusing then when I start with the buttonhole stitch or whatever, I use a lightweight butcher paper I buy by the roll at Hobby Lobby. It tears away very easily and doesn't leave a lot of stuff behind. It is also a lot less expensive then regular stablizers.
