I am working on my oldest DD a Sun Bonnet Sue quilt. I am using the blanket stitch on my machine to stitch around it. The thread I am using is Connecting Threads in black. DD loves how the black makes it look but I don't. It seems to "thick" to me. Is there a thinner thread that would be good to use and not stick out so much?

This is my first applique project and any help is appreciated. I am using the Quilt in a Day book and interfacing.

well i usually used a beige thread on mine. is it a large blanket stitch or a tight one? i have two on my machine and like the larger one best.

I like using a small blanket stitch with a rayon black thread on my SBS appliques.

Use a blind hem stitch and maybe that invisible thread or just plain natural color. Ddi you see the section in the book on the different ways to stitch it down? Maybe go through that and try some to see how you like it. I think black is too stark for me too.

Yes, it looks like that stitch. I like the stitch, just not how the thread looks. I will check out the thinner embroidery thread and try a lighter color maybe. I really don't like the black. It seems like it overpowers the soft, 1930's colors that I am using.

if the quilt is for dd and she loves how it looks why try to change?
if you look through books of older sun bonnet sue quilts the black blanket stitch does look (thick) it's not- it just looks that way because of the contrast
