Applique lettering

I'm making a quilt for my Great Great Niece and wanted to applique her name onto it. For those of you who have done a lot of applique quilting, where do you find the lettering that you use? I've tried Googling for FREE applique letter templates, and only find ones that charge.

Suggestions?

Sending you a PM.

Type it into Word. You can pick the font (something bold) and the size you want for your project. Print and trace the letters (in reverse).

My daughter is a teacher and I used some of the letters she had for her boards. If you have a Lakeshore store or GW School supplies they sell them.

You can also buy letter stencils and cut outs at Staples and Office Depot.

Something like this? This is done in Word and printed off. Remember - you can actually change your printer to print in 'Mirror Image'. That way you don't have to reverse the letters to draw round.

Sorry no help but I am watching other people's ways. As a teacher. I just draw it.

I just this morning found an entire set of upper and lower case letter templates for applique. They are free and are on the blog site "Skip to My Lou".

I buy the large letters and number sheets at Walmart, there supposed to be for mail boxes and such.

I didn't really want to use block letters. If I knew the name of these fonts or where to start with that would be great. I just don't even know where to begin on this quest. Free-hand drawing these would give me a migraine and I would be way to critical of myself. The reason I want these on my computer is so that I can size them as big or small as I need for a given project.

I usually search "free alphabets" and find all sorts of fonts. Free colouring pages may have them too. I just find the font I like and if it isn't the right size, I use the printer to re-size it.

As mentioned before I use Word, or any other program where you type your letters from. There is a place to choose the Font style with a picture of what it looks like and then choose the size. Sometimes the numbers only go up to 72 but you can type any number you want into that. Just print out one or two letters per sheet of paper. Tape them to the window & trace them backwards for fusible. I've looked at my printer & can't see how to mirror the image, as another member suggested. Have fun! Also some programs you may already have on your computer do have some funky lettering.

You don't need to mirror image cut out and place on fabric back to front, sometimes cheap kid's colouring books have alphabetsvin them you could copy.

I use Word and Mistyfuse. Don't have to reverse the lettering! Also, save yourself some ink when you print it out and use the "outline" option when doing your words. It will just outline the words, leaving the inside blank.

Cindi.... good point.... I forget to do this and end up with lots of black ink being used, oops! :o

You can use the "italic" too. I vote fonts on the PC.
