applique question

I am really new to applique. I do machine applique. My question is, can you use minky for applique. My next project will have animals and thought they would be cute done in minky.

Do a sample and see. I would imagine you'd have to use some kind of stabilizer to keep it from stretching.

I have a friend who appliqued minkee (monkeys, elephants, etc.) on a baby quilt. I agree with Candace - may want to use stabilizer. This site has hints for how to applique with Minkee - scroll down to "Tips for using Minkee for appliques:"

i've used minkee and micro fleece for appliques *among other specialty fabrics. with the curly minkee (which sheds big time on the cut edge- i first pressed a fusable interfacing to the back- then cut out my shapes- it seemed to keep the shedding to a minimum- you could also stitch an interfacing (right sides together) around the piece- slit the interfacing- turn right side out- then your edges are finished before appliqueing them onto your background.

Thanks for the advice. I have never worked with minky before and didn't know if it would just fall apart where I satin stitched.
