I bought some little die cuts from Keepsake Quilting and I really like them. Am making my grandsons each a quilt and would like to applique a car, plane and train in different places on the blocks [not on every block]; just 3-4 per quilt. My question is how can I get them to stay where I want them in order to applique them on the machine? I normally use heat n bond, but you can't use that w/ these because there are open spaces. Would appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks

Ever try Elmer's School Glue? Iron them on and sew around them, then when washed the glue is washed away. This is a way that some seamstresses do their perfect quilt binding, iron on some glue.

What about spraying adhesive to the back of the cutouts?

I use double-sided fusible interfacing. It's backed with paper on one side. You iron it on the fabric, cut out the shape you need (or cut it first and iron it on, whichever you prefer), then peel the paper off and iron it in place. It's really lightweight, but bonds and holds nicely. You can get it at any fabric store.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I like lightweight steam-a-seam even better! That stuff wears like iron and will not ever let go. You can get it double sided, too.

I got the S-A-S double sided tape, but for some reason I can't get it to stick. Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

Sometimes the tape won't stick if the fabric is heavily sized, and those precut shapes usually are so they won't fray.

Try double sided wonder tape, it doesn't require fusing, it's sticky on both sides, and washes out. I use it all the time when I hand applique instead of pins. You can find it at Ericas.com or createforless.com or I think Joann's also has it.
