I am going to be adding some of Darcy Ashton bunnies to a spring quilt I am making. My question is: how should I applique them? Which method would hold up to washing? Fusible or hand stitched? Any help out there?

I always use lightweight fusible when doing applique by hand or machine.
|
my experience has been you can't JUST do the fusible, you have to stitch it down too. i'm repairing one now that i forgot to stitch some of the small pieces on, didn't even make one washing

I haven't had any trouble with fusible applique being washed. I do blanket stitch the edges down though :D:D:D

I usually just hand applique everything down without fusible and is fine.

It depends on how much it is going to be used and what for. Baby quilts I have fused and satin stiched around the applique. That sucker aint' going no where. LOL
If its something special I will hand applique. I love hand applique. |

We use Wonder-under to fuse the fabric and then stitch around them to hold the edges.
The one below is a cat from the Garden Patch cat collection. It was part of our BOM last year. Lanny |
I have found that fusible does not hold up to machine washing affter awhile. What I do is use monofiliment thread &sew close to the edge & then do blanket switch.
This helps to keep the fusible anchored, as a blanket stitch is not enough to hold the very edges down permanently. Hope this helps. |
