Use the Aurifil cotton 2ply. It's strong and blends very well. I've done it with a few different kinds of applique and it works great; lots of colors too.

Try a spool of silk thread with your next applique project. For me, now silk is the only thread for applique. I will use it when I hand sew my next binding on. I think it is worth a try.

I love silk thread for appliqué. That's all I use now. I use the invisible Aurifil sometimes for quilting and was worried about it melting; but so far, neither of my irons bother it at the highest setting.
