There is also some done where they sew in about a 1/4" from the outside edge so it does fray when it's washed. It's kinda like the raggedy quilts that are popular now. Maybe it was sewn down and you didn't notice the stitches.

often (especially for shop samples) fused applique is not stitched down-0n wall hangings- they just figure it will never get washed and doesn't matter-
unless you are making a sample- even with fused applique the pieces should be stitched down- it is still raw edge applique (which simply means the edges are not turned under- but yes they should be stitched- with time humidity can cause the fusable to let go- if you don't stitch it down your pieces could start falling off. |
If they hadn't sewin it yet it was probably because for a display they don't need to; it's not getting washed. I've seen this done when a shop wants to have a class w/it and doesn't have time to sew it on. I'd think you'd need to sew it if you were going to wash it.
