ARGH!! Working on a project and the iron just started leaking ~

I was in the mood and clicking right along, wouldn't you know it chose today to create a mess, water drops all on my background fabric. I need the iron it's an applique project.

Agree with using dry iron. If you need water, keep a spray bottle nearby. Good luck! I hope it didn't stain.

What a relief that there was no stain or problems. Hate it when the iron drips and spits.

I can fully sympathize... I broke the knob that changes from dry to steam and it stuck on steam... I wanted a dry iron. I'll just pour out the water and wait to get a new steam iron when they go on sale :)

Ugh, must be the month! My iron has started doing the very thing a few days ago.

I have a tendency to work with a dry iron for quilting because I have notice using steam tends to distort the weave thereby messing up my measurements.

The only time your iron will leak is when it absolutely, positively MUST not...I finally gave up on mine and just use it dry. That way there's no problem and you can still spray if you need to...

I feel your pain. I simply CANNOT find an iron that lasts for any reasonable amount of time without spitting, leaking and staining my projects. Had a Rowenta, and found it not to be worth the $$$. Makes me so angry sometimes. I have about 8 irons laying around the house that have all let me down!

I had my iron do that the other day while ironing fabric. I understand your fustration. Dry iron.

I saw an article in an old quilting mag that was comparing irons and rating the high priced ones and the cheaper ones and I loved one sentence of the comparison. "All irons develop incontinence with age!"

I had that happen with a couple of irons. I don't use steam anymore, I use a spray bottle of water if and when I need water. I was even using bottled water, didn't help.

I've gone to a dry iron as well. Less frustrating.

because every iron eventually (at least in my experience) becomes incontinent, I never put water in my iron anymore. Instead, I keep a spritz bottle of water next to the ironing board and use that generously when I need to steam something. I'm sure that the water is clean and won't damage what I'm ironing.

I went through 3 irons trying to get one that did not do that. Was visiting my daughter and loved her iron . Set out to find the exact same one. Finally found one online for 49.99. Have had it for a year now and it is my new BFF. I have thought about ordering another one before they discontinue it for a new an improved one, lol

this is the exact reason i never ever put water into an iron- i hate sputtering/spitting/leaking irons! i keep a spray bottle of water on the end of my ironing board for when i need a little spritz of water- or a little steam- haven't had a sputtering iron issue in years :)

I'm glad you were able to use the dry iron without any trouble.

I just purchased a Sunbeam but don't remember the Model #. But took it back prior to using because it was SO BIG!! LOL And heavy!! I have read some good review about the Sunbeam.

I love the idea of a spray bottle, instead of steam. Why is the easiest idea the one you never think of? LOL

I heard most often an iron will leak because it is not hot enough yet to create the steam. Don't tip it over to use till hot and it shouldn't be a problem. Don't know, I only use steam when I am ironing preshrunk fabric. Loved the incontinence comment. Mine always break before old age. From falling to often or burnt out cord...
