ARRRGGGH - I HATE my Drunkard's Path!!!
 

Ugh - I had finally bought a bunch of batiks and agonized over a pattern. Finally chose Drunkard's Path and hand stitched the curved pieces then decided to hand piece everything. The blocks are 12 x 12, each block is made up of 4 small blocks with the curved quarter circles. I made 25 blocks total, half in red/pink, the other half in blue/green.

I wanted to do the pattern like Elise1's in the Picture Gallery but I couldn't figure out how the blocks should turn so in the end I kept it so that each small block is part of a full circle (instead of a 3/4 circle) but each pie shaped piece is a different color.I hand pieced the small blocks into the big blocks and I am just about done hand piecing the rows.

I HATE it! It doesn't look different - I could have appliqued a bunch of circles onto a background and saved myself the trouble!!! I am now going to rip everything out and start rearranging the small blocks because if i complete it, I won't like it and I really wanted to like it!!!

So sorry!! Do you have a design wall or a big bed that you can lay the blocks out on? I sometimes spend several days rearranging the blocks on my design wall to get the look I want. I find if I do it in a hurry I am usually unhappy.

I feel your pain. If it'll help, have a drink to go along with that Drunkard's Path.

I agree with SewNTune - a drink will help!

I watched an episode of Quilt in a Day with Eleanor Burns a couple of weeks ago.
Even she said have a glass of wine before you quilt to relax.
This made me think of that.

There are many ways to sew the drunkards path together hope you find one that will make you pleased

Maybe try different arrangements before you start ripping! Hopefully better luck today!

Try getting the book shown in this link. Maybe you find a pattern you like.

There was a funny little tool that made those curved seams like 60. I saw it at the Chicago quilt show. I didn't buy one as I don't care for drunkard's path pattern. Maybe someone else can help you find that.

I consider Trader Joe's "2 Buck Chuck" wine an essential quilting tool for most projects......

I think Latrinka has a good idea; try several arrangements before you rip one stitch. You may not have to rip at all.

Put it away for a few weeks (or months) and forget about it. Then get it out and see if you still hate it. After being away from it for a while, you might like it.

sorry, your d. path is misbehaving. I used to think I didn't like the pattern, but it has grown on me.
I would rather it was called something else, but then it is wonky/crooked isn't it? :D

There is a reason it's call Drunkard's path, and you may have stumbled onto it. :) Put it down and rethink it for a bit before you start ripping. Good luck and post pics please... with or without the wine.

Heehee - once again, lost of good advice. I like the D Path because it does morph into many designs - probably what got me into trouble in the first place!

Let me go back to my design wall and look at some links and books as advised... maybe the wine will help because it might make me LIKE the derned thing!!!!!
