As I now have my "All singing all dancing" Bernina 440QE waiting for me in my Christmas box my next thoughts are " Heeeeellllpp" well not really but well maybe yes!!! I paint in acrylics but mainly abstracts spurred by either nature or things I have seem. Always having been interested in fabric from a small girl, I would now like to tranfer some of these ideas into mini quilts or wall hangings. Anyone able to recommend books fir appliqué. That is probably the way forward for me. Or any other ideas or recommentations would be gratefully received. Had to look up " batting" now need to know from where to buy it.

go to Hancock fabrics or joanns or Hobby Lobby , what ever you have in your area to purchase your "batting". Also you may have a LQS { local quilt shop} in your town, they can give you loads of information and sell you batting, fabric, etc. with personalized assistance.
Have fun

if you draw and/or paint, I'll bet you'll be good at thread painting.

Kikiatl 12-23-2010 08:43 AM

I like to check out books at the library, read them, and then decide if I want to buy them  Our's also lets us put books on hold, if they are not immediately availble. I have a long list LOL :D:D:D

Have you thought fabric painting? After painting then you can quilt. Since you already paint, it should be easy.

Yes I was thinking about that, hearing about book called "Art Cloth" by Jane Dunnewold.

Check out Quilting Arts magazine, also a TV show. We get it locally on our PBS station. Pokey Bolton is the host and has some awesome techniques. Just a place to start as her guests have such talent you'll be flying all over the internet with lots of good info to check out.

Anything and everything by Jane Dunnewold is an excellent place to start. She is a master craftswoman...that's not just my opinion, she's been designated as such by the state of Texas. There are tutorials on her website that will give you a taste. http://www.artclothstudios.com/index.php

Why is that pretty chicken in the pot? I am worried!

kathy 12-27-2010 08:36 AM

that pretty chicken and her friends killed the pretty flowers I had in the pot so they can take their dust baths in it!
