Asking for ideas
3 Attachment(s)
I have this beautiful rich fabric which I bought some years ago and also some for my BFF. We agreed we wouldn't cut into it until we came up with something special to make. Well we are no closer today than we were then, so I'm asking if anyone can suggest a pattern that will do this fabulous fabric justice. Unfortunately it doesn't have any info on the selvedge. It had been a top shelf fabric and I got it for about 1/3 of the cost. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Sorry the photos aren't better. The background is black, the butterflies are red with gold overlaid.

Placemats.
It is beautiful fabric. |
I would love a table runner made from that gorgeous fabric.

Big square pillows!
|
I actually have 3 meters so was thinking more along the lines of a quilt pattern
|
It has an oriental look to me so I might choose a pattern like fans or lanterns.

What a beautiful fabric. I would consider showcasing it like you would a panel. Here's a couple of images that might give you some inspiration. I wish I could give proper credit, but the images are saved on my computer, and I have no idea where I downloaded them from.

Along the idea of JJBlaine to keep the fabric showcased, here is a quilt top I made with a large-scale floral fabric. The pattern is called Night Sky.

i was thinking something along the lines of JJ's and Jennie's also

Beautiful fabric and needs to be shown in all of its glory-like the pictures shown above. All of them are beautiful.
|
Your fabric is really lovely - how about a floating tiles pattern which would leave the fabric in tiles as large as you'd like.
|
Those are great layouts you all shared. Gives me ideas...
|
How about the "Warm Wishes" pattern?
|
I would do a hunter star using black as my second color.
If you wanted to add a third color in the star section, then a gold. |
I like both of the quilts shown and think either one would work with your fabric. Up to you to chose now!
|
Is there an identifiable repeat? If so, you could do a one block wonder, 4 patch posy or other stack 'n whack. Just save enough for a wide boarder.

Thank you fellow quilters for all your suggestions. I have a few ideas now so will put some serious thought into it while I finish two quilts I'm working on. Once again thank you.
|
Have you considered using it for a backing? Make a reversible quilt. The fabric is gorgeous.
|
Walk About could be a good pattern for your fabric. https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...-quilt-pattern.
|
You want any pattern with large pieces. If cut into small pieces you'll lose some of the beauty because the butterflies won't be identifiable.
|
Thank you quilting sisters. Feel free to add your suggestions as I won't be starting this for quite some time.

I have a pattern "Imagine This" designed by Ann Lauer of Grizzly Gulch Gallery (www.GrizzlyGulchGallery.com) It is perfect for showcasing beautiful fabric. I am going to use this pattern for a raffle quilt for my local dog park fundraiser. The pattern has large sashed center rectangles and smaller (skinnier) side rectangles that show off the focus fabric. A twin uses 1-7/8 yd of the focus fabric and the full & queen sizes uses 3-1/4.

whatever you choose please post a picture or two

Now there's still about 1 yard. That pattern from Missouri Star will be great. Plan to get it done tomorrow and will post pictures. |
