When attaching a border to the quilt, do you put the border down on the sewing machine with the quilt on top or do you put the quilt down the machine with the border on top. Sometimes I get a slightly ruffled border. I try very hard not to stretch anything but it still happens.

I put border on top & pin about every 5 inches - taking the pin out just before it gets to the needle.

I measure my quilt top, usually in 3 or more spots (NEVER the edge). Cut boarder the average of the 3 measurements. Then I pin boarder to top, so the boarder is on top, quilt top is on the machine.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely try these suggestions this weekend when I finish my quilt.

i do not measure i lay the border on the quilt down the middle and cut to that length i pin at the start middle and end of the seam. you want to put the longest side down to the machine because it will ease in the extra.
