I looked, I saw I don't want to make one! Turns out they are quilts made from not-colorful fabric, mostly whites or very pale pastels, especially (from the ones I saw) shades of pink. Without a doubt they are appealing to people who don't care for brights or contrast and they are peaceful (that's a pun, in case you didn't get it). There are all kinds of pictures on the Internet. froggyintexas

If one definition of "low volume quilts" is they are made from "low volume runs of a fabric design," I found several sites of interest. There are fabric printers that will print your own designs on fabric especially for you, and/or offer to sell your printed fabric to others and pay you a commission. Because I am also an oil painter, I thought of using my paintings to create a collection to make my own totally original quilts. The process is quite pricey, but it's fun to think about it anyway! I love this creative website!

I belong to a modern quilt guild and low volumn quilts is something we are interested in. We shop a lot at
Pink Castle, Pink Chalk are both good. Westwood Acres on Etsy is good. Check out "Pearl Bracelets" https://www.fabric.com/quilting-fabr...bracelets.aspxHow could I forget Tula Pink anything. On sale at Jimmy Beans and other online shops. http://www.jimmybeanswool.com/sewing...pecPCVID=32703 Look for these fabric lines: Architextures, Folkloric Blooms and Creatures and Critters, Indian Summer, Glimma, Bijous, Oval Elements, Pirouette. |
Last month my quilt guild had Amanda Jean as a the guest speaker. She was entertaining and had her low volume quilt along with others to show. I thought it looked good.

An interesting topic for sure, I checked out the PinkChalkFabric website, very nice. The second thing I check out is their policy on shipping to Canada, they do....yay!

I'm not a huge fan of the low volume quilts although I've seen some I really liked. When you get down to it, it is all a matter of personal taste. There are plenty of quilts that don't appeal to me at all but I know they are the cat's meow to others.
I took one of Elizabeth Hartman's Craftsy classes and she has one quilt she calls low volume tiles. There is contrast and a pop of color. This is what I made using her guidelines. It was a bit of a challenge and I can't say I'd want to make another but it was interesting to do. I don't remember if I ever posted it here before so I'm posting it again. I also follow her blog. :) |

http://www.redpepperquilts.com/2012/...ume-quilt.html Many thanks to Pat, Crqltr and fayser for all your specific information. I found that Etsy has a lot of LV fabrics and now I know what lines of fabric and designers to keep an eye on. Mom-6, I'd LOVE to see a pic of your calm quilt. Those photos are so inspiring. KrisP and neenee586, I am green with envy! Must have been fascinating to meet her. Once again, thank you ladies for your help solving my problem. I've got fabric on its way to me and within a few months, I may have my own LV quilt. Hmmm, perhaps I should mosey on over to the photo section and ask for pictures of low volume quilts there. Hmmm |
