Aurifil 28wt thread
Got the email from Tristan today about new Aurifil grab bags so of course I checked it out. Saw they have all these assortments of 28 wt. thread. Anyone ever use this weight? How did you like it? Any info on this and the heavier weight thread would be appreciated. I've been using Bottom Line in my bobbin (and sometimes on top) and Aurifil 50wt on top for both piecing and quilting, but I like the thought of heavier weight thread for quilting. Thoughts?

I have used it a couple times. I really like the definition it gave the quilting. I also used it in my embroidery machine where I needed good coverage for some lettering but couldn't use a dense design. It worked like a charm for that application particularly.

It's a thicker thread than I prefer for quilting, but the best way for you to decide if you like it is order some.

I keep a couple of spools of extra thick black thread for doing black buttonhole stitching on primitive machine appliqué pieces.

if you decide to try such a heavy thread- remember you will need a much larger needle- or the thread will shred/break often. personally I do not like such a heavy thread except in some hand stitching applications where I really want the thread to stand out.

Thanks everyone! I may give it a try.

Wonder how it would work on a longarm? Has anyone here ever tried it?

I like the thicker threads for quilting. Try some and see how you like it
