I agree with what others said; in addition, an Aurifil stitched seam lies really flat when pressed.

When I order from Tristan (in Canada) several quilting friends join in - thereby distributing the shipping cost. Usually cost us no more than $5-6 a spool, including shipping. Be careful when ordering that your choice is the 50wt cotton.
Sometimes I just want one spool of a particular colour and I found a good USA source through Googling Aurifil.

Bottom Line (a Superior Threads product) is my bobbin choice always

It doesn't break and it is low lint; it comes in many colors. It comes in more than one weight but most use the 2ply which is great when you are piecing blocks and need accuracy. Believe it or not but switching from a 3 to a 2 ply thread really can make a difference in how accurate your blocks turn out. I have a Viking Mega quilter and Viking recommends this thread for it but I also have the Ruby and a Kenmore/Janome and this thread really does a great job no matter what the machine.

I was introduced to it last summer during a Shop Hop .... I bought some, merely to "buy" something as the shop owner had been so good to me in showing me around her shop and stock, and yet I didn't want/need anything. So I thought, I always need thread, so why not give this a try?? ... even though to me, I didn't see it could be any better than what I was using.

All I can say, is try it and be observant re the comments already made above. Exactly why I fell in love with it very quickly ... and now have a hard time returning to my old threads to use them up. Aurifil is my sewing thread of choice now.

(as for the shop ... I've since returned and have signed up for the Kaffe Fassett workshop when he is in the area in October and during the Shop Hop this summer, she'll see one massive sale of fabrics to get ready for that workshop)

WOW! I just looked at their site, and the regular 50wt is about 1/2 price to what I've seen it at in several LQS' here in Canada. hhmmm? wonder why? Not that I'm arguing!

It's deemed a "preferred thread" because it's preferred! Do a search here using the search feature above and there are hundreds of threads on it. ( no pun intended)

I tried auriful for the first time last week just because I happened to be shopping and needed some thread and they didn't carry my usual. I can't believe what a difference to my machine piecing. I will only be using auriful in future.

I prefer to use Aurafil thread. It's thin, strong, and my vintage machines love it. I don't get the thread breaks that happen with another popular brand.

I haven't tried Aurifil, but the reviews above interest me. Is it any better than using Bottomline from Superior in the top and bobbin?
