Aurifil thread

I just ordered some of this thread recently and tried it today for the first time. OMG It is wonderful. I can't believe how nice it sews. I am piecing a wall hanging and what a difference using this thread. I think I will be spoiled now.

Glad you found something to love. It's great when you can sew with something you can depend on. What colors did you get?

Divokittysmom 03-10-2016 07:31 PM

I'm hooked on Aurifil also!! It sews beautifully and doesn't leave a ton of lint in my machines.

Prism99 03-10-2016 07:47 PM

I love Aurifil for piecing. Am a convert from Mettler.

mamagrande 03-10-2016 08:04 PM

I love Aurifil and is the only thread I use for piecing. I have about 12 colors, 5 in cones and 7 in spools.

patski 03-10-2016 09:06 PM

Did you know that the larger end cap pops off? I learned it at a class and it makes using the spool holder on the machine much easier!

Aurifil is my go to thread for all piecing. I have it in many colors but lots of neutrals too.

annt59 03-10-2016 09:34 PM

Cheapest price on craftsy.com-aurifil thread . It is now 8.45 for 1422 yards 50 wt. sometimes it goes even lower.

Jim's Gem 03-10-2016 09:41 PM

Yes, get it from Craftsy.com I bought 2 dozen spools from them in early January for less than $8 a spool.

Bree123 03-10-2016 09:43 PM

Yep! I love it, too. I call it the "Cadillac" of threads. I buy lots of the smaller spools for hand applique work & a few of the larger ones for piecing & quilting. Patski's tip is a good one. With the little spools you just wind the thread around the lip 3-4x and I've found it stays.

sandy l 03-11-2016 04:22 AM

Yep, it's the only one I use for piecing.

I am a member of the Aurifil thread group also, purchased a box on Mass Drop last year, and have never looked back!

luvstoquilt 03-11-2016 05:55 AM

My favorite as well!

jillmc 03-11-2016 06:15 AM

I have been an Aurifil girl for awhile....recently tried the 40 wt for machine quilting-love it! And, yes, Craftsy often has it on sale for less than $8.....

ManiacQuilter2 03-11-2016 06:55 AM

I recently got spoiled with this thread too when I bought a 3 pack as a Daily Deal on MSQC. My biggest problem is finding the colors I want for around $8. Craftsy has a limited color selection so I found a few at Hancock of Paducah.

Lynniekins 03-11-2016 07:07 AM

I've been looking for a source for Aurafil. Thanks for the heads up!

jillmc 03-11-2016 01:38 PM

Hawthorne also has aurifil, and has sales once in awhile....

JuneBillie 03-11-2016 03:25 PM

I plan to get some Aurifil when it's on sale unless the shipping makes it same price as my local fabric shop.

mkc 03-11-2016 05:28 PM

I was lucky enough to start with Aurifil when I first took up quilting (3 or 4 years ago). It was the thread my LQS shop sold, so it's what I bought. I've only tried one other for piecing and immediately went back to Aurifil.

This past week I tried it (still 50 wt.) for FM quilting instead of my usual Isacord poly. Oh my - absolutely love it for that, too! Just the right sheen, perfect tensions with my Janome 7700, not a single thread break in a 60 x 84 quilt.

I'll have to try it on my next FMQ project as I currently love Isacord for FMQ on my Janome....

citruscountyquilter 03-12-2016 04:36 AM

I love Aurifil. I have never used it for quilting and will have to try that. I thought it was a little too thin for the look I wanted. I also appreciate the tip about where the best price is. I rarely use colors and stick with primarily gray, white and beige so should have no problems finding the colors I want.

It makes me feel so good to have fine and beautiful things and Aurifil fits into that category for me.

Please tell me what Mass Drop is.

My favourite thread also & I also like Isacord thread for embroidery work on my machine. More $$ than some other brands but it shows in the quality of the stitches.

No I didn't. thanks for letting me know. I always piece with Aurafil and use it when doing sit down quilting.

Jo Anne B. 03-12-2016 07:35 AM

Yep! Convert here to! Love the stuff!

kat13 03-12-2016 08:52 AM

Seriously???? I've been putting the spool on a holder! Thank you!!

Wintersewer 03-12-2016 03:02 PM

https://www.massdrop.com/ Become a member and about every day a new buy pops up. I haven't ordered from there but I've heard some say it may take awhile to get your order. Some things you might find cheaper somewhere else.

ctrysass2012 03-12-2016 06:56 PM

Check out Green Fairy Quilts. They sell Aurifil & have sales every 2-3 months & free shipping over $10 in the US. That isn't hard to meet.

QultingaddictUK 03-14-2016 03:56 AM

I gave the 50 weight a go about 3 years back and have never looked back, it's a wonderful thread and saves so much bobbin winding!
