Ay Advise w\ Electronic Rotary Blade Sharpener
 

Hello Ladies..

With a 5 pack of 60 mm blades running at$35 I usually save up my 40% or 50% coupons for the local Joanne Fabrics when I need a pack of rotary blades. But even at that, I'm spending $17 for 5 blades. I know, that sounds like a good price. However I was wondering if anyone has tried the 'TrueSharp Electric Rotary Knife Blade Power Sharpener' and what you all think of it? Here it is being resold by the Grace company for $50 http://tinyurl.com/np7mtwm however I have seen it for $38 on Amazon.

I figure it would pay for itself fairly quickly as I have a small box that I keep dull blades in and would love to be able to re-use them.

I finally figured that my life is too short to be spent re-sharpening blades. Instead, I purchase good quality blades in bulk from eBay. These cost in the neighborhood of $1.50 per blade or less.

Any sharpener is not going to be able to correct a nick in a blade. At most they can prolong blade life if there are no nicks.

Hmm that's a good point.. I never thought to buy them in bulk... I'll try to shop around and see what deals I can get. I had looked on the Grace company site for feedback on the sharpener but the comments are odd.. most of them were comments on having luck ordering from the company or how it was shipped but none really comment or critique the product at all.. which makes me think that maybe there are not that many good reviews on the product's performance or quality.

Joann's sells the sharpener, and have a couple reviews that were not good. I would like one, also, but very hesitant to buy one after reading the reviews.

this company---www.lpsharp.com, offers an 'exchange' program---you send them your dull, nicked blades, they send you new, sharp blades for much less $$ than buying new in the stores- you can exchange in 'lots' of 10 blades. solves the old problem---what to do with the old-used blades---and keeps you supplied in new ones. over the years I have (wasted) my money on a couple different sharpeners---both were Very Dangerous to use and only bought me a few more cuts before the blade was dull again--I do not know how the electric one is to use-but the manual ones are just plain scary- when I compare the price of stitches & an urgent care visit to the cost of a new blade I go with the new blade every time.

I, also, have used the lpsharp.com company for "exchange" blades. I have been very satisfied. Out of 50+ blades I have ordered the past 2 years, only 1 wasn't quite as sharp as the others........ still lasted through many cuts. I date mine when I put in cutter and have been amazed just how long they last.

I bought the electric blade sharpener and I like it. I sharpen my blades and it does sharpen them well. I was able to slice through 9 layers of fabric for my Buggy Barn quilt after I sharpened my blade! It was very dull before I sharpened it.

I also agree with others on L.P. Sharp(http://www.lpsharp.com/3.html), great prices service.

Thank you ladies!! I will certainly look into lpsharp.com.. I do stack up my dull blades and do like the idea of exchanging them for *new* or sharpened ones... and the price seems good! I appreciate all the replies..

I checked LP Sharp and thought they were pretty pricey.
