baby lock creshendo or bernina 750

looking at upgrading from my old faithful Bernina 1630 to either a Baby Lock Creshendo or Bernina 750 QE....any suggestions?

SuzieQuilts 08-14-2014 08:46 AM

I bought my first Bernina 27 years ago, and I have not purchased another brand for myself since then. If you are happy with features of your Bernina, I would upgrade with the Bernina.

I have my beloved Bernina 830 Record and a Bernina 440QEE which has been my standby for a while now. I just purchased a Bernina 750QEE and am still in the very long learning phase- boy can that baby do tricks! My thoughts- once a Bernina girl, always a Bernina girl. The 750 is a beautiful machine, stick with the Bernina.

I would go babylock, alot of the 7 and 8 series berninas have had a lot of problems and if you just happen to get one of those you are out a lot of money. Babylock is more solid, haven't seen any complaints about the babylock and brother v series, but essentially its still your decision. I have the brother version of the unity and it to me is just the best machine I have ever sewn on

I am now a big Baby Lock fan so that would be my choice.

Antdebby1 08-15-2014 09:07 AM

Bernina all the way. My first Bernina 1090 is still going strong. I just got the 750QE and it is wonderful! No problems at all.

I love my BL Unity and BL Elizabeth! Best sewing time of my life :-)

Amarillo19 08-15-2014 06:40 PM

I've had my 750 a year and love it. Have had no problems with it at all. I don't know Baby Lock but I do know Berninas are great and just keep going forever.

I agree with the Bernina ladies -- LOVE my 830!

I have a Bernina Anniversary Edition (435) and she does keep humming. I don't know anything about Baby Lock to compare although I wish I did. Does BL have a stitch regulator? I don't think I could ever live without it after having it now LoL.

Need to try and even this up - Babylock Crescendo in my house. I do have an old Bernina that I would never let go, but love my BL. I have not looked at Berninas for many years, so can't really compare though.

I have a Baby Lock Unity which was a trade up from my Crescendo to add embroidery, and a Bernina 820QE. Hands down I would choose the Baby Lock. It took 6 months of back and forth with my dealer (an hour away) and 5 brands of thread to get the Bernina running. Had to replace sensors and a spring already. I belong to a Bernina 800 series board, and there are people all the time that have had problems with the 800 and 830's. I haven't heard as many problems on the 700's, but once burned twice shy.

DH just bought me a Bernina 880 with a huge Koala cabinet as a reward for losing 40 lbs. I am in definitely totally absolutely over the top in love with both the Bernina 880 and DH! We also have a dealer in our area that provides great service. I plan on taking my Machine in every year for a spa treatment at my age 65 I plan for this machine to last me the rest of my life. We also got the embroidery module. The quilt shop offers a discount on fabric purchases when you do this. Now I'm really motivated to lose another 49 lbs. to say thank you for such a wonderful gift. A win win situation. This is my 3rd Bernina. We traded my 640 for the 880 and I have a Numbered White Pearl I keep as a back up machine.

I just bought a 750 a year ago and love it. The only negative part is how often it has to be oiled. Do you find this annoying?

Judi in Ohio 08-17-2014 07:29 AM

I say Crescendo all the way.

franklindixie 08-17-2014 06:06 PM

You really should try both. They're both fabulous machines but the feel is very different, especially if you use the stitch regulator for FMQ. Good luck.

yep..it comes as a package....i have always loved berninas....have had two...1630 and 1080 model....but the babylock is so nice as well, and a little cheaper.........so hard!

devildogdiablo 08-18-2014 08:35 AM

Thanks to all that have commented as it has really given me some feedback i really needed....pluses for both! Guess i'm going to have to test drive them for specifics and see which i like the best...

devildogdiablo 08-21-2014 04:53 AM

sewlittletime 11-04-2014 03:13 PM

I am so in love with the baby lock crescendo machine. I have not purchased it yet but how can it diss appoint me. I have a baby lock ellure embroidery machine and love that. I also have a singer , and to be honest, I have grown out of it and it is just so loud when I sew. Looking forward to purchasing the new machine. Does anyone have a price range for me?

I have a Bernina 1530 and I am still using it until it or myself dies first. I am quilting smaller items so I don't need a larger throat. I tried piecing on my friends Janome 6600 and it was a disaster. Too old to relearn another DSM.
